I hope not; he's one of the nicest posters around here. I know TPTB were giving him grief about the trip to England thread, but he had made it clear in there that he wanted the thread to die.

I did a trade with him towards the end of March. He mentioned he would be off the boards "until April", although he did not specify when in April he would resurface.

    Got your package today, Andres.

Umm, well, I guess I got your package more than a month ago. I only got around to opening it today.

    Thanks!

You didn't need to explain that the Japanese koban was an old fake- considering the pricetag of real ones, I deduced that pretty quickly. image

I must say, though, that even the sight of a interesting replica caused some heart palpitations for a moment. Wow. They must be really impressive. I've never seen a real one, even in a museum or at a big national show.

    Glad you like it Rob

That one is a replica of a big Koban worth 2 Ryo (33 gram), after that , they are called Obans , starting at approx. 100 grams ,
and the big Obans weighing approx 170 gramms = 10 Ryo's , as far as i know the biggest circulation gold coins in the world.

many of these kobans & obans ended up in the Netherlands, since the dutch were the only foreigners allowed to trade
with the Japanese between 1650-1850 using a manmade island Decima (Nagasaki)

From the Osaka Mint museum...the cases are not oversized or over-small, I wish I had put something in there to show scale

Vertical display of the most impressive...the second picture to try and give an idea of how big the plastic cases are...and you see a 12 year old elbow in that shot too:

    The last two are huge.
