Does this Gehrig auto ball look authentic ??

I am doing some research for an acquaintance and need to find out your opinions on this Lou Gehrig signed baseball. The ball appears to be in the correct time period but do the Autos look legit ?

its obvious vintage in every way
no one on this planet today can fake that sig like that with that age and wear..... and back in the 1930s, no one would have
the Rosy Ryan sig looks retraced though,
my only Rosy Ryan "card"
If you are being offered the ball cheap with the hope of getting it authenticated for resale, then no, I wouldn't do it. That signature will never pass PSA or JSA and no one is going to pay top dollar for it. You'd be lucky to get a Coach's Corner price on it.
If you are thinking of buying the ball for your own collection, ask yourself this...if you want a Lou Gehrig autograph, do you really want one that calls into question its authenticity and looks that bad? Pay the money and buy quality. In my opinion the ball only has value to someone who is going to sell it to a "sucker".
To me it looks like the Gehrig "signature" was added to the ball well after the "vintage" but probably not recently. Forging autographs of Ruth, Gehrig, Cobb, etc. is not a new thing. As you can plainly see the ball toned and aged over time. The "white" scuff marks are clearly a more recent attempt to add some "character" to the ball. It might show up on eBay or Craigslist with a description like:
"Got it from my grandfather but my kid took it and played catch with it"
Of course now that it is damaged he's willing to part with a priceless family heirloom.
