scrap metal vs. precious metal

In the last month I've hauled 14,440 lbs. of scrap metal to the scrap yard. Price is $165 per ton which is the highest its been in a long time. I'm a fourth generation farmer and there's a lot of scrap on a farm. A couple years ago it was $120 and everyone thought that was a great price.
I just wanted to say it really makes me appreciate my little rolls of silver eagles and my 10 oz. englehard bars that are sitting in my safe deposit box, and the value that silver has.

Also I found some old copper wire, probably at least 50 lbs. Some of it still has insulation on it, scrap yard said they pay $3.09 for bare wire, but only about half that with the insulation on it. I'll probably burn the insulation off it.

I have a neighbor at the ranch that burns the plastic off of wire. It always smells like on electrical fire...... drives me nuts.

Question for scrap gold...... do the processors/smelters take gold "plated" jewelry?
    Si vis pacem, para bellum

In God We Trust.... all others pay in Gold and Silver!

Be very cautious about that buring insulation on copper wire. I knew a guy who tried it and got quite a crowd of emergency responders for his trouble. He also ended up actually burning the copper as well as the insulation.
It can be stripped off. It's work but it's legal. And one receives one's reward rather than producing green flames.
Many, many perfect transactions with other members. Ask please.
  • $1.55 is a great price for insulated wire. They only pay $.65 here. I always burn it... it's well worth the hassle.
