Question about the packs from a full 1979 OPC Wax Box

I have a full 48 pack 1979 OPC Hockey Wax box coming in soon and would lke some opinions on if I should get the packs graded from PSA or GAI or if I should keep them ungraded? I am looking to sell out the packs instead of the whole box itself? Any opinions?
Thanks,
Dan

unless you are dealing with a buyer who really trusts you from past experiences, i can't see how you would sell it for anywhere near as much if the packs are ungraded

agreed with above post. Your best bet is to send them in to get graded. Psa will get you the most return on your money.

Hate to say it but there is much resealing with this product....Hope that it is legit. It is a very expensive modern era box

I thought GAI was just as good also?

GAI's reputation has become suspect over the years.

    Changed it for you...
  • You will get better money in a PSA slab for a pack compared to GAI, I think almost every single time.

Agree with the above and sugest you open at least one pack to make sure it's legit and then send the rest into PSA. If they are all resealed you're out a lot in PSA fees you could have saved.

True, you might a Rodman, Pippen and Stockton RC in the same pack.
  • but wouldn't PSA be able to tell if they are resealed?
  • Does anyone know if PSA or GAI would be able to tell if the packs were re-sealed? Also If I do open one pack ,what should I look for to tell if its resealed?
    THanks,

send it to psa , if it is resealed , you can then take it up with heritage or if they are fine you will maximize your value

Whew... I'm just glad you didn't say ebay. image
  • If the box is sealed when you get it then by all means break it open and send a few packs into PSA. If they come back graded then send the rest into PSA. If you take alot of pictures of the sealed box and then the packs inside before you send them all to PSA to get graded, when you get them back you can show you opened the box and graded the packs to potential buyers.

You will make alot of money if you have the trail to the unopened box. People will pay huge money for unopened packs as long as there's a chance they will find the Gretzky. Sell them all at once and people will go crazy because they know the Gretzky hasn't been taken out already and the remainder is being sold off.

Personally I would send them all in at 1 shot. In fact I would call them and see if you can send in the whole box and let them take the packs out. I am thinking that if you send in a few at a time, there is a greater chance that some may come back NG. Less chance for Heritage to argue that the packs were mixed with others in the event that there is a problem.

Yes PSA certainly can tell if they have been resealed, but they will charge you $14 per pack for that. I suggest if you feel they could have issues which it seems you are worried about with your topic thread that you could open 1 pack or send in only 1 pack as someone else suggested if you don't have the expertise. That will cost you $14 to have an expert tell you if the whole box is legit versus being out $672 if you send the whole box in and find out they are resealed.

The $672 bill to find out your packs are worthless is the definition of adding insult to injuryimageimage
