My official "Craigslist" Thread.... Newest: Vintage Cards

I enjoy sharing my local pick-ups with you guys, and I know some of you like looking at them. So instead of posting every time I will just consolidate it to one thread.

I go through easily hundreds of craigslist ads daily, if they have something of interest I give them a call and see if they are going to be realistic on price, and then typically make the trip out to them. I've been doing it long enough that I know how most of the reoccuring posts/retail guys titles look and I am able to just pass on those ads and save quite a bit of time.

Sometimes I've found three quality collections in three days (like in January), other times I can go weeks without finding anything (Like in February lol).

Those are really neat, are they one off's done by the artist? ...haven't seen them before.
  • Michael Anthony Ricker they are casts, they all come with a cert for the auto (Signed & notarized) as well as the cert of title or cert of casting with original price paid, appraised value, and matching the statue # - Most of these are earlier in the "print" runs being in the 100's or lower some double digits.

Namath must have been displeased with the lad's mechanics and snapped off his left hand to teach the boy a lesson!

These do have a bit of a following, at least the football ones I encounter in my searches.

They obviously appeal largely to player collectors and I think they are taken in by the allure of the limited production number + authenticated signature.

Just as in the card world, the art world has parallels that add to the overall number made. For example the "normal" piece may be limited to 400, but there is an Artist Proof run of another 100 that are essentially identical.

You didn't get a Walter Payton with the deal? I still need one for my Sweetness collection now that I have established a price history and know what to pay.

  • He didn't have a Payton, he had an enormous pewter collection though. These things are heavy... They are small but weigh 12 lbs each.

I have the hand to the boy, I just don't know if its better to let the person buying it repair it and include the piece... Or get it repaired myself?
