1987 Topps Tiffany Maddux Auction

Sorry, still do not know how to link

Interesting 1987 Topps Tiffany PSA 10 Greg Maddux Auction. A few buyers duke'ing it out for the Tiffany RC. It's up to 157.50
I grabbed the 4SC BIN for $119 when I saw the 157.50. Why don't people do more due-diligence ?

Not sure what these RC cards will ever amount to, but people obviously want them

Looks like a bidding war between only 2 people at this point. Sellers love this kind of thing, but it doesn't always give a good read on the true market value. Kind of interesting that there are only 2 registered 87 Topps Traded Tiffany sets on the registry also....neither of which has the Maddux(although they both are no where near being completed)

Edited to add: For $100 less, give me a nicely centered 9 all day long! FWIW! image
  • THIS, is exactly why 4SC is good to have around.

4SC has sold 5 of these recently at $120; so just two guys not doing their research I guess.
  • Once this sells for $157.50+, 4SC will immediately put up a BIN for around $157.50. They're a machine
  • I was thrilled as the seller on this $35 card.

Too bad the underbidder didn't jump at my second chance offer on my other one, which actually has even nicer color to it.

This Henderson card wasn't bad either.

Too bad they don't have the same level of competence when dealing with customers directly.

Could be that folks are putting together their own non-Registry future-HoFer rookie card collection, with a self-selected list of cards. (you don't need PSA to tell you what to collect)

I think the 80s era Topps Tiffany cards are starting to wake up, after being "sleepers" for so long.

What is the big deal? A card sells for a little more then VCP. You guys are always complaining about 4SC grading advantage. Maybe the market is using their numbers and putting a premium on it for PSA 10's.

You should be cheering the fact that there are these bidding wards developing. This is good for the hobby.

And Foo, saying way too much, I guess you have never been involved with a rising market. The bottom line is in the short run the card market is getting much hotter. This is not ending anytime soon.

  • BOOOOYAAAAAAAAAA !!! 235.50 Anyone was to buy 10 of these ? :-)

    5 bidders above $155.

VCP only tells you about the past. Not the present or future.

  • The card market, as well as the economy are showing signs of improvement. This is good.

Take advantage of this, move some inventory while decent prices are being realized.

However, after consulting with my magic eight ball jacket. A looming energy crisis will stiffle this upswing.

Don't fear collectors, the cards you seek will just be less costly then.

I could be wrong, this is the same jacket that told me basketball cards were worthless in 86. Something about 'Load up on Jose' is all I remember it telling me.

The senior board members will have a much better insight than I, but out of the collectors in my circle, the vast majority could care less about the registry, myself included.
Would not surprise me at all if a handful of people owned 50% of the entire PSA 10 pop for the '87 Tiffany Maddux. I definitely buy multiple's for what I consider undervalued cards for "alternative" investments.

You can never have to many of a good card.

  • I can't seem to afford to have that problem with high end Mantle's :-) But for the '93 Jeter's, 92 Piazza's, etc,
their values definitely aren't going to cut in half like the stock market a few years back.
  • After last nights $235 auction ... As expected, 4SC listed a 1987 Topps Tiffany Maddux 10 this afternoon.
It was purchased within 30 minutes.
