110 Down--1973 Topps(1953 Reprints) Completed in PSA 8 or Better

In a completion that certainly ranks as a "semi-vintage" set completion, my 110th set completion with all cards PSA 8 or better is 1973 Topps(1953 Reprints). This 8 card set which contains Satchell Paige and Jackie Robinson was reportedly either given out out as table favors at a Topps banquet or sold as a test issue in Brooklyn. There were reportedly only 300 sets made. The cards are relatively tough in psa 8 or better with each having a pop of 15-20 in psa 8 or better. In this 8 card set, three players are misidentified. Carl Furillo is really Bill Antonello, Al Rosen is John Fridley and Clyde McCullough is Vic Janowicz.

My set is all 8s and is tied for 6th behind The 53 Kid and hobby good guy and photographer extraordinaire Anthony Nex.
I will let the set rest at this level.

I appreciate all the help of collectors and dealers in achieving my hobby goals.

Congrats. This is an interesting set. How do you suppose Topps got 3 of the 8 cards in this set wrong. Incompetence, or maybe a prank.

    Bowman Baseball -1948-1955

Not likely a prank--more likely carelessness.

    Hiya Jim

That's actually a cool set! And one I wouldn't mind having. I also like their reprint of the 52T set.

Ya know? I wouldn't be surprised if Al were onto something about the competence vs 'prank' thing? Who knows?

Good luck - always a pleasure.
