Busted 4 boxes of 91 Donruss tonight and got something decent.

Me and a friend were at the card show in Hickory, NC today. Picked up a few items while we were there. As we were about to leave we passed a table with some wax boxes for $3 each. There were 4 91 Donruss series 1 boxes so I offered the guy $10 ( I know frickin tightwad) and he said sure. I remembered pulling one of the elite inserts out of a box of these years ago so I thought why not. My wife helped me bust these and of course she pulled this card. Not the best player to get but I aint gonna complain. She was pretty stoked to pull the card. Any specks you see are dust and those tiny pieces of paper that came off the puzzle pieces. Let me know what you guys think this card may grade. Now what to do with all these 91 Donruss LOL.

  • Wow, in three boxes! That's some mojo there. I'd have to get a case to hit any one of those.

Actually it was 4 boxes. The guy I bought them from said he bought a case to try to pull some of these. He said he got one out of the 10 boxes he opened. I want to think these averaged about one every 10 boxes or so but I am not sure. My wife got a charge out of finding it.

I will have to watch that listing then. I pulled a Bonds one of these years ago. This helps me feel a little better about that bust of a Bowman Sterling pack I bought today.

    Cool!

I remember the rage over those.

I bought a box of 92D and pulled a Thomas #/10,000. I should've sold it when I could've picked up an easy 200 bucks! When it was worth about 20 bucks or so - I sent it to one of the board members here who told me it was creased? Can't remember who or anything.

I remember there was a signature series also - I'm thinking the Ryno was the hot pull? In the regular - people were hoping to get the Ryan card?

Great memories - that was the 'boom' - loads of card shops - shows and collectors chasing all kinds of inserts and parallel sets!

Cool Pull!! That to me is the coolest set from 1991 to me. I like also how upper deck that year had the 1/2500 autos and the 1/3000 autos. Made me want to buy a box seeing this thread

I know what you mean. Another guy there had 2 boxes of 91 UD football for $5 each. I bought them just to look for a Namath auto but no luck.
  • Great Pull! The odds are closer to 1:10 cases then 1:10 boxes

1 in 200 boxes at 5 dollars a box seems fair to me.
In all of my prime busting in 1991 as a kid I was lucky enough to pull a 1991 Gaylord Perry Auto. At the time it booked for 200.00 and I went crazy! Still have it and even let PSA grade it. To this date that was my favorite pull. I was looking for the nolan but gaylord made my day!!
Still looking for the nolan when I get a box though.

If thats true I got real lucky. Especially since the seller said he had already pulled one from that case.

I think it's closer to 1 Elite/Legends/Sig every 2 cases or so, but I've heard anywhere up to 1:5 cases. There's no way he pulled an Elite out of the same case as your box.

1991 Donruss sure created some buzz back in the day with these inserts. Naturally, this is my favorite:

This card is tough to get in mint as there tends to be some surface issues as well as soft corners.

Does anybody know if there is one of these per case?

    Great pull.

Those were so cool to pull in the day.

    Still nice today.

I remember hearing they were 1:3 cases.

I was at a show were a Drabek & Canseco (which everyone about sh#t over back then)
& a Sandberg sig. came from the same case.

Being randomly inserted did make it possible.

If multiple cases got more than 1 hit, it just made the odds worse for the others I guess.

Does anyone know if the 1991 Donruss elite/sigs were inserted into the rack packs that year as well? And if so, could they have been seen through the cellophane wrapper without opening the pack?

I pulled a Henderson and George Brett in the same case in 1991. It can be done.

I have the complete set of Elites now.

I busted another forty loose boxes that year and never pulled another Elite/Legend/Signature Series card.

Thanks for all the comments guys. If I see any more boxes of these cheap I will have to give it a try again. If I send the card to be graded I will update the thread.
