Opinions Please - newly slabbed Ripken custom auto.

Just got this one back. I think Doran did a wonderful job on the card, which is 3.5 x 5.

The holder is huge ... 6.5 x 10.

Do you think that is the smallest size they have to fit this card?

One good thing ... the card does NOT move in the slab.

One bad thing ... the darn card was put in the holder crooked!

  • That is one big holder! No way to bump it and get it straight?

Yeah ... way too big IMO, unless that is the smallest one they have to fit the card.

I tried "bumping" it a few times and it does not move! (Which would be GREAT IF the card was straight!) Maybe I need to slam the hell out of it!

  • Cool looking card. Just would look a little nicer in a smaller holder.

  • Is that size holder they use for Prez signed postcards?

Cool looking custom and auto though. Still looks sweet.

I agree, the card and auto looks great. How much was the special that you sent it on to get slabbed? I have a couple Doran cut autos that I need to get slabbed.
  • It's probably a thickness issue.

I recently submitted two 3.5" x 5" cards. The one of ordinary thickness came back in a smaller holder. The outer dimensions of the holder measure approximately 7.25" x 4.25".

The thicker one with a slab of wood attached to the front of the card came back in a 6" x 10" holder like yours did.

These were presumably slabbed at the same time, presumably by the same person, since they were both on the same submission and have consecutive cert. numbers.

  • Also, the 6" x 10" holder is the same size they use for 1980s Topps Super cards, which measure approximately 4.87" x 6.87".

Crazy ... the thickness issue you raised is probably the answer. THANKS! That's why the card is not moving around. HOWEVER, I wish they would have slabbed it straight!

It was sent in under the special that Derrick (Raiderguy10) put together. Because it was oversized it was $15.00. The "regular" sized cards, even ones that were Doran customs, were $10.00.

Great looking card! I like to display my stuff and that crooked card would drive me nuts every time I looked at it.
  • i love those huge slabs! what does suck though is that cost to slab those is $14 vs "regular" price for Tall Boys

$14.00 ... that's just for a regular card, right? The regular cost to slab and authenticate an auto'd card is probably over $25.00.

Yep, $14 to slab a raw unsigned card. Plus additional S&H
