Best baseball autograph set/subset 2011? Other modern card questions.

I am mainly a vintage collector. However, I am looking to start a baseball PSA registry set from 2011 on autographed cards. I was looking to find the set with the best player make-up, look, etc. Also, Over the past 3-5 years, what have been the better issues in baseball, football, etc? Topps Chrome, Bowman Chrome, SP? I'll probably be looking to do this every year now, and would like to know what the best options are. Thanks, Dave

  • I would go with Bowman/Bowman Chrome. Its loaded with all the RC's, and are typically looked at as their true Rookie card.

There are base auto's, refractor's, blue refs, gold refs, orange refs, and red. At least for 2011, and for most other years.

The product this year for Baseball comes out in May.

Agree with B Chrome if your willing to collect lots of minor leaguers that will amount to nothing.

But if you want actual MLB player, then I have no idea.

I could keep going, but have other stuff to do, skipped down to Goldschmidt, but there are other names you should know in here. Beckham, Machado, Pineda, Choice, Villar, Cecchini, Solis, etc.

Don't listen to the minor league guys going nowhere, You can do the same for 2010 etc. Where do you think Strasburg, Heyward, Posey, etc have come from. They don't put out a bunch of junk players.

Good luck with your sets, just didn't want you to throw out this one without knowing a bit more. These can be collected at a decent price especially early on in the season when it comes out.

Goldshcmidt and Harper and a few other Auto's are going for big money now. Base Goldschmidt raw are like $40-$50, and Harper is at least $125-$150.

Tier One if you want star/HOF nice looking on card autos. Also Marquee Museum Collection autos are gorgeous. Once I'm home I can show you a scan of some nice ones.

Bowman chrome/draft if you want prospects.
Looking for PSA HOF autos, PSA Vintage Red Sox and Pedro Martinez

Just got a package from UD with a letter. The letter states they regret they cannot be held responsible for the original autograph list they came up with for their SPX product. They hope the auto they sent me will suffice. I look at the card and see the Jay Bruce card. Wow, best auto I have had in a long time, just wondering why the three page letter apologizing for the change in the auto signings.

If you are looking outside of Baseball I would go with the 2010 Basketball Ultimate all time team set. You have Jordan, Lebron, Dr. J., Bird, Magic, Russell, and many more HOFers. Great set!

  • Thanks for the input. I've decided to go with Topps Tier 1 Top Tier subset. 20 cards, all great players. Should be fun. If you have any to sell, I'd be interested.
