What are the chances this is real?

I found one of these christmas packs on eBay. I don't have $2500+ to spend on it, but was just curious as to what the experts here thought about it:

Seems to good to be true, but on the other hand, the cards look real to me ... then again, I am far from an expert on 53 Topps

Well let me rephrase that - what are the chances the cards are real. I know they were all just packaged by a third party and are not Topps distributed but I though the cards were in fact authentic for the non-faked ones by scumbag eBay sellers.

Besides all the info available on these the obvious wear on the corners of the cards should answer your question.
  • Well... I'm pretty sure the cards are real... But you will probably pay a stupid ridiculous premium because someone decided to fakely package them

Thanks, I wouldn't spend $2500 or anything close to that for a xmas rack, I was just curious if the cards were real. Obviously it would be far easier to put $2500 towards a PSA 6 or 7 53T Mantle if that would be your end goal.

I wish Topps made packs like this. I would have loved an all Yankees pack in my Christmas stocking.

Take a look at lot 176 ( closed lot) in the latest Legendary auction, and note their description ( packaged in the 50s and untouched) and the final price ( $ 4000 + without the premium)

a 1956 Christmas pack with a Mantle showing. The lot description says it was packaged in the 1950s and that the cards are untouched.. It went for $ 4250 before the buyer's premium. I have an account but do not need to sign in to access their site or view opened and closed lots in the auction

    100% real

all Xmas packs have real Topps cards inside.... buy the cards, add them to your collection, throw away the wrapper (like card collecting was meant to be done)

they are after market repackaged old cards, done in the 70's +++ ... I bought similar packs as a kid at a local toy store. (not saying they cant still be done today, they are aftermarket and were NOT a Topps product)

You can see he sealed it himself on the edge. Must have bought a 50.00 1960s Xmas rack and made this thing.

The point is the bold assertions made about it by a major Auction house.

fkw---There have been all kinds of allegations about these things...re packaged in the 50s or 60s or 70s or 80s....sold at retail stores in the 60s, 70s , 80s, .....cards Topps sold to a retailer or retailers in bulk....unsold cards , returned cards, unhandled cards, handled cards. And no doubt whatever they were originally they have been duplicated again and again since Mark Murphy first introduced them into the hobby

But few real specifics are out there.

Can you recall exactly when you bought them and from what retailer(s) ?

I think those old Xmas racks are cool. They certainly display well. That 53 rack is great for the Yankee collector.
