I think it just has too many small printing defects to get a PSA 9.

    Nice card.

Those small defects are why it's such a tough card.

There is a large print dot in the R. The card appears to be 65/35 side to side. There is chipping on the left side that is fairly heavy and much lighter on the right side. The picture has a great deal of fuzz in it. The corners look good in the scan.

I think an 8 at best is where it belongs.

No way that gets a 9. That is one tough card to pull a 9 out of. Been trying to get PSA 9 of this card for the last 2 years. Last one sold for $400 at auction and there's currently another one up right now. Wish me luck.image

I just checked the one on EBAY. Your card is not even close. Not being harsh but just being realistic.

  • 77's are SO tough. the paper stock is mushy, theres SO much PD going on overall

I would be very happy with an "8". Leave it alone. s/s centering not very appealing; chipping on sides, especially left side; quite a bit of snow; large imperfection on the "R".

    1977 PSA 9 Robin Yount

The pop report shows only 28 PSA 9's and 125 PSA 8's.

This one on EBAY looks very sharp.

All I can say is that pop report cannot be accurate. This card is just impossible to find. I think alot of those cards were cracked out and resubbed in hopes of getting a 10. I wouldn't be surprised if there were actually only about ten PSA 9's out there.
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well the SMR price of $85 is obviously way too low.

That would make since that some would crack strong 9's to go for that Pop 1 PSA 10.

A board member Mike or miconelegacy has it now.

No telling what that card would bring. SMR shows $400 but I would think that would be more like $1,500 or so.

Sorry, but I cannot believe that will make a 9

I don't know why that card couldn't get a 9. Fisheyes are generally not factored into grading. The corners look sharp. The centering is fantastic 55/45.

Depending on how rare and valuable it is, I'd crack and resub it at least 2 or 3 more times before giving up on it. I say you get the 9 one of those times.

nothing personal, not a pretty 8
  • It looks like it might have "9"-worthy corners, but I don't see anything else about that card that would suggest to me that it has a chance. Border chipping, fisheye, quite a bit of snow, centering is just OK.....

    nice card, but no.

The last one to sell (January 2012) sold for $405.00. That is the only one that shows up in VCP since 2008.

apologies for bumping an older thread, but this topic sparked an
interest in this Yount card, and I managed to pick this one up on eBay
a few days ago. I don't purchase many "high grade modern" cards
these days, but this one was worth it (surprised it also went for less
than the PSA 9 discussed in this thread, despite being better centered
and free of print defects, assuming the scan is accurate). '77 Topps just
has some cool cards and, thanks to this forum, this card is on the way...

    Nice pick up, CW!

    Good for you.
  • That is a great pick up. Makes me think twice about the PSA 10 I picked up for my set. I could have bought about 30 or 40 PSA 10 commons for the price of it. Great choice and smart decision.

I was a little surprised it closed for less but that's how it goes sometimes. I think you will be happy with it. The 77's are just a tough set to find in high grade. I think this one was a nice example. Enjoy!
