Is there something wrong with this card?

Here is the scan I received.

Here is the picture of the same card from VCP that sold a while back.

Looks like the same card to me... what's your concern? Is it because the green area looks different? I think it's a scanner difference.

I was concerned about the textures in the face and green and also thought the flip looked a bit off. Maybe it is just my eyes playing tricks on me.

Looks like two different scanners. The card's fine, just the first pic had a better scanner.

top has the saturation and sharpness turned way up on the scan to make the colors pop. makes 'em look like totally different cards, but likely the same.

another big problem with the card is that it's not in my collection. image
  • Mathew,

Yes, it probably is a different scanner, but at the same time, the seller may have adjusted the contrast on the scan to make the colors pop more and to
lessen the effects of the surface printing defects which are much more prominent on the lower scan all over bobby's jersey. The grade for the card is fine, the seller is just trying to make the card look better than it really is in my opinion. Hal

Yeah as others have said it's just different scanner settings and/or qualities. The top one appears oversaturated and the bottom appears washed out. Unless someone took the top card and left it in direct sunlight for a week, it's just differenes in the scan and not the card.

I agree ... same card just different settings on different scanners. The little dot in the border in the top left corner is on both as is the "scuff mark" on Hull's left shoulder (right side of the card).

  • I agree with the others about the scanner. But I also believe the "snow" on the Jersey could have been "Photoshopped"
Higher setting on the scanner would have really made that "Snow" on the Jersey standout even more. I think he turned up the setting
and then Edited out some of the "Snow" on the jersey.

    my 2 cents

Card #66 in a PSA 6? That card's the devil, bro.

I think the problem is that it's a hockey card

I think that having a black background versus a white background helps the top card.

dont see anything messed with, looks the same just different color settings.

only slight difference is the "5" in the flip (serial #), but the rest of the slight flaws on the flip are the same... same with the card. Nice card.

    right edge looks frosted

Having just been down to PSA for some reholdering and had an extensive discussion about frosted slabs and what to look for, rest assured there is not enough frosting there to be concerned with slab tampering (unless an expert polished out the rest of the frosting; sending to PSA for reholdering or review would nip that issue for certain). Also scanner lights can pick up tiny notches in the holder made during the sealing process and amplify them. Really best to judge holders in hand while tilting them to catch light against a dark background.

Seems all good to my eyes; different scanner backgrounds, settings, what the rest of the guys said.

Looks to me that there is a slight dent in the card above his right shoulder in the top scan but it is not there in the bottom scan.
