Morgans with faded date and stars?

I have a Morgan coin I purchased (probably really poor bad idea) but I want to say it was cleaned but it more looks like the 1921 and the stars to the right of the coin are faded out. Is that even possible without it being cleaned?

Striking issue, grease fill, polished down dies are also possibilities for the weak stars. New Orleans mint was notorious for this. Philadelphia not as much, but it happened.
