?Strange auction for 1957 set

I was bidding on this set 1957 Topps set auction

and tried to contact the seller because it seemed unusual for several reasons, e.g. low feedback volume, no recent selling, no appreciable record of high-end vintage baseball, etc. When he didn't answer, I stopped bidding.

Now that its ended, the result also seems strange: bid history

The winning bidder also has low feedback volume and only made this isolated bid (actually, 1 earlier on this item, then a snipe topper). Are we seeing a scam of eBay buyer protection? Did any of you also bid on this? Do you also think these patterns are strange?

  • I don't understand what you are talking about "scam of ebay buyer protection"...

    Can you please clarify?

Well, at first I was worried that the seller was trying to scam a buyer like me, in which case eBay buyer protection might bail me out. But what if the eventual buyer is in on it? Couldn't the buyer pay the seller, who then disappears with the $8K, and then file for an eBay refund? If the buyer is in on it, he didn't really 'lose' the original $8K, and might gain the eBay compensation.......

I bid on that set as well. There does seem to be something odd about both the seller and buyer: Zingdude. No recent bids, doesn't look like he has bid on or sold cards before and now he goes all out for a 57 set.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.
