    SEGS is the oldest prof...

Oops, no I believe that they were bought by DLRC, which converted them to DGS (Dominion Grading Service) and later shut this entity down.

DLRC bought PCI, not SEGS. OTW, I don't know about SEGS at present. Google "Sovereign Entities Grading Service"? I think that's the full name.

It was the PCI company's equipment (slab shell molds and sealing machine) that was bought. DLRC sold PCI's old equipment when DGS went out of business to someone who then resurrected the PCI name.

Yes, SEGS is still in business. at least as of yesterday, when they were taking submissions at a coin show in Chattanooga.

  • They have some bizzare coins in their slabs at the right price its worth a crackout... If you know what your doing...

I believe it was actually sold privately, but it was the discovery piece, 78 Vam-86.

And yes, as already stated, SEGS is still in business, owned by Larry Briggs.

There is a dealer at a local show who carries all SEGS coins. He is the only one I have seen with their coins since I started collecting.
Sadly he doesnt seem to sell much.
All coins kept in bank vaults.

I remember a local coin store that would send the "good stuff" to
SEGS and the "junk" to PCI. image

I have no use for SEGS or PCI. I would never consider buying a coin in their holder, would not even look at a coin in their holder, big waste of my time.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

They are indeed still in business - I just met Larry at a small show a few weeks ago in Chicago. He seems to fill a niche of giving second opinions on coins when a dealer isn't sure.

many dealers specialize, but larry is VERY knowledgeable about almost anything that walks up to his table. ive spent many hours at his table, if you have something to sell, he will not only quote a you a price, but he will share with you the history behind what you have. he owns SEGS but he i dont believe he is actively involved in the grading process.
regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything

I did not say it was a particularly good pun. Perhaps you should take it up with RYK.image

    SEGS

I have found some nice coins in both SEGS and PCI. You just have to look at the coin, not the holder. Same goes for several other slabbing companies. If you know what you're looking for and have a good eye for grading, you can get some steals.

Definately not a waste of time to look at holders other than our hosts and across the street.
