anyone else sad???

my son's high school basketball career came to and end this weekend. very sad...he finished on the upside scoring twelve on senior night and eight in his last game when they lost in the sectionals. he won't be playing after high school unfortunately. not a great demand for 5-7 point guards....anyone else go thru this sadness recently??? at least I still can root for my daughter who also plays and will be a sophomore next year.....

  • Think of it this way... In 15 years you get to watch his son go through school and play sports all over again.

    wow... seriously?
  • There are lots of sports opportunities for guys who aren't even in their 20s yet. A lot of times being under 6'6" isn't even a disadvantage. If he values continuing with athletics he'll have no problem doing so. If he ends up valuing other things more than sports, most likely he'll share some of it with his family

Hopefully your son has discovered the true values of team sports, that will last him a lifetime.

I will after the next fall football season...my son is starting Center for the high school team and his life is school and weight room year round until then. He will be a senior and unless he grows a bit (6'00, 230 right now) this will probably be it for organized football. I saw it with the senior dads this year so you are not alone....
  • I was pretty bummed when I graduated high school. No more sports is what I thought. Just because I didn't move onto a big school and play, didn't mean I couldn't join different highly competitive leagues. I currently play in a basketball league on Sundays and a Softball league on Mondays. The wife tags along to share in my glory, but Im sure if I had a dad that was interested, he would be there cheering me on just the same.
Interested in any Favre stuff you have to offer. image

My daughter is a sophmore in high school. She was a starter in junior varsity the last two years and was the 6th "man"on the varsity team that got 3rd in state last weekend. She played quite a bit and would be a starting forward next year. She has decided that she doesn't want to play basketball anymore. She has been playing for several years including leagues during the summer. Between jv and varsity she played 50+ games this season. She is completely burnt out, which I can understand. It disapoints me that she doesn't want to play. She's 5'10" and was a starter on the varsity volleball team this year which she wants to continue to play so her height won't go to waste, but I wish she would change her mind. So yes.....I am sad as well!

Our little twin boys just turned eight and I have coached them in basketball since they were five. I am going to enjoy every minute of it and try to remember to enjoy certain moments.

One of our twins is such a hard worker and eager to please me that he is a defensive warrior.

When we lost in the tournament he came over to me with tears in his eyes. I gave him a hug and told him coaching their team was the most fun I had this year.

At this very moment, I hear the ball bouncing on the driveway outside. When I am watching TV and hear that ball bouncing it always makes me smile.

Point is, I will try to enjoy these moments and will be in your shoes soon enough.

I was sad, but how quickly things change.

My son graduated last year as an all-state, Jr. Olympic & Sr. Olympic (Doesn't mean old, just ability level) swimmer.

The college he planned to attend, because of their highly ranked business & law schools, dropped its men's swim/dive
    program because of budget cuts.

Once he got on campus he met a great group of guys on the water polo team. He had never played the game but they
talked him into coming out. Long story short, he now starts and is having a blast playing a new sport.

He also joined a club swim team that a few weeks ago beat the likes of UVA, Va. Tech, Md. & Wm. & Mary.
They will be going to the Collegiate Club Swim Championships later this year.

Tell your son to keep his eyes, ears & options open.

He may end up finding a new sport/team to continue his athletic love.
