BB for Counterfeit question

If you purchase a raw coin on ebay and send it in for grading and it comes back as BB for being a counterfeit do you have grounds to get your money back from the ebay seller?

(besides being against eBay policy)
so, the answer is yes.
<< <i>Is it really as cut and dry as a big yes ? The seller could claim the raw coin isnt the one he sold..end of,and what if its outside the 45 days ? I agree in a perfect world its returnable but its ebay we are talking about and all that implies. >>
I agree, especially if the coin is no longer in the original holder I think the eBay seller has a leg up on the buyer by saying that there is no guarantee it is the same coin.

What if you saved the eBay listing with the seller's pics showing marks and toning patterns that exactly match the coin that PCGS wouldn't authenticate? Will paypal get you a refund? Would you credit card company get your money back?
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

There was a thread here Perry talking about how ebay takes the pictures down after the auction. I dont know how true that is as i am not on it enough to pay attention. My point being if thats the case or the seller hosts his own pics and takes them down it might be a problem proving its the same picture the seller put up..a screen grab would work i guess but who's going to do that for every auction they win. I get your point though , i think i would do that with an expensive item.

If one buys an expensive raw coin off eBay I would think that if they want it slabbed they should do so right away. As a last resort I think a credit card charge back would be in order assuming the seller won't take the coin back or paypal won't help you. This question is a good reminder why buying slabbed coins off eBay makes the most sense.

Ebay will refund your money. They may require that you send them a pic of it destroyed
as they did for me. I did not send the coin back to the seller. I got my refund no problem
and just had to explain the situation.
But, talk to the seller first. Explain yourself, politely via messages. Then if no help proceed
to Ebay/Paypal for your help.

<< <i>do any TPGs actually state firmly that it's counterfeit? I thought all I've seen was something like "uncertain authenticity" or ??? >>
I think that's correct , as far as a PCGS BB goes anyway , i have one here and its little more than a clear flip and blue tag that says "questionable authenticity"

It is worded that way as PCGS can not return it to you if they state it is a counterfiet, they are required by law to turn it in to the Secert Service IIRC.

Some coins NGC does state as not genuine, some would state as QA. Like this one:
Date/Info: (1901-08) CHINA SZECHUAN L&M-345A Y-238.1
Denomination: S$1
Grade: NOT GENUINE

See the details in this thread but E-bay basically told me that all I could do was to press charges on the seller after they refused to refund my money. The seller said that Pcgs says Questionable and that does not mean 100% fake. I used pay-pal,but was not a credit card but a atm/bank card so I could not get refunded that way. I still have that coin which one expert says he thinks it could be real.
