MegaCon 2012 - A Gazillion Pictures for the Comic Geek in you

So my buddy whos a HUGE comic book fanatic asked me to go up to Orlando Florida with him to a comic book convention. I was never really into comics so I didn't know much but I decided to go anyways (ticket was only like $24) and it tuned out that I had a really neat time. I got to see all these awesome comic books and all these wonderful people dressed up and just having a great time. The vibe among the crowd was as friendly as it can get. As with most conventions, they have guest speakers/signers and Stan Lee happened to be there. My buddy gave me one of his x-men comics so I could stand in line with him and get it signed fave to face. Stan lee let me just say is 89 years old but still is sharp as a tool. Supper witty and personable. I really couldn't believe how nice and cool/normal he was/is.

So I took like a million photos and Ive been meaning to share with you guys - this event took place 2 weekends ago. Hope you enjoy.

Great pictures, Marc! Thanks for sharing those. I LOVE the Ghostbusters wagon - that is super cool! I don't think you have to be a comic book collector to want to meet Stan Lee - he's a legend. What a cool opportunity.

  • BTW - That Captain America is the first issue. Dealer was asking for $25,000 for it!!! Another big issue is #3 because that's when Stan Lee first began writing for it.

    Great pictures thanks!

I went to Wizard World Boston a few years ago and had a blast even though I don't collect comics either.

Very cool! I'm not a comic collector but I am a sci-fi nerd. I went to Comic Con last year and will be going back this year (my wife is a panelist) and it's great. I got to meet Stan Lee at a party one night. A very warm, genuine man.

    Thanks for sharing.

PLEASE tell me the people dressed up were working for the Convention and NOT fans who wore that stuff to go to the convention. (However, I think I know the answer.)

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
  • You just had to do it didn't you marc.

Making me clean the vomit off my keyboard....
  • Great pics and it looked like you had a good time. I've gone to the NY ComicCon the last few years, and it is INSANE. My son takes me as a birthday present (although i think it's more for him). It's so crowded on Saturday, that I now go to the Thursday night "VIP" night. On the weekend, at least 70% of the crowd is in costume.

Comic Book Guy: Yes, I would like to return your quote-unquote *ultimate* belt.
Clerk: I see. Do you a receipt, quote-unquote sir?
Comic Book Guy: No, I do not have a receipt. I won it as a door prize at a Star Trek convention, although I find their choice of prize highly illogical, as the average Trekker has no need of a medium-size belt.
Clerk: Wow, a fat sarcastic Star Trek fan. You must be a devil with the ladies... gee, I hate to let you down, Casanova, but no receipt, no return.
Bart: I'll give you four bucks for it.
Comic Book Guy: Very well. I must get back to my comic book store, where I dispense the insults rather than receive them.

Very funny thread. I haven't been to a comic show in nearly 30 years. Quit collecting when I was 17 or so, but got back into the hobby last year. Although I'm still not a serious collector (I only buy early '70s Batmans), I plan on attending a local show in the next month just to see what it's like.

+1 for a Perkies sighting! Nice to see you too, Paul! image

+2 for the great pics - missed this thread the first time around. I'd love to go to one of these comic conventions sometime. Used to love the team-oriented books (Avengers, Defenders, X-Men, Inhumans, JLA, Teen Titans, etc). Had a huge Avengers collection that I got rid of for next-to-nothing when I first got married.

What gets me is the costumes. I basically collect coins but keep up with the sports cards and things. I just can't imagine going to a coin show dressed up as a Franklin Half Dollar or Benjamin Franklin. Maybe a bare brested Liberty off the 1916 and 1917 Standing Liberty Quarters.
