Brien Taylor jailed on multiple drug charges

I mentioned in another thread the other day I got to see him in 1992 when I played in the Florida State League.

We had a guy square to bunt and the ball went about 6 inches from his face and he never had a chance to move. We made the grounds crew go check the speed of that pitch. He comes back and says that one was 98, but he hit 100 twice that inning.

He was long and effortless with a great curveball. Just another horror story of an athlete that fell from glory now.

Brien is in big trouble
The best pitch to start a hitter off with is always strike one.

An example of what not to do if you are a hot prospect. When you think about it, what happened to Brien Taylor could have happened to Gooden or Strawberry too. Just a bad break, no pun intended.

  • The Greatest/most hyped pitching prospect of the 1990's. Too bad he chose to throw his career away. He ruined his shoulder/arm in a bar fight correct?

    A true waiste of tallent.

Todd Van Poppel might have a thing or two to say about that.

Sad to see someone catch the break of a lifetime only to throw it all away. Oh well, he made his bed, hope he enjoys laying in it.

At least Todd VP carved out a decade in the league. He still shows up Ranger alumni events. If I had to bet Van Poppel probably saved a good fortune of his cash.

I remember buying 2 of the 92 gold factory sets to get the taylor card.

    expensive.

Now I keep them as a reminder of how stupid I can be.
