Don't understand.....

how people on here can complain about shipping charges for an item they already bought, when eBay makes the seller post how much they are charging for shipping. DO YOUR RESEARCH before you buy! If you don't like how much someone is charging for shipping don't buy from them! or message them about lowering shipping charges BEFORE you buy......Geez, bunch of complainers about something the buyer has the power to avoid.

Just my two cents....

  • You're not ment to UNDERSTAND. People always complain about things.

I always factor the shipping in to my bid/offer.

  • And I know people complain about things.....I mean, I'm complaining haha

But it is something that is addressed on here a lot.
The poster complaining about paying too much for shipping, then asking the forum what to do next....not pay, ask for a refund, or some other scheme.
  • That's an easy one, if they charge too much for shipping just don't buy from them. If enough buyers did that, they, the sellers, eventually wouldn't have any buyers and would just go away and would be left to wonder what happened. Poof into the night.

You might want to look up, because there are some things that are going over your head as we speak....

I couldn't agree with you more. Sellers are going to ask what they want for their items and shipping. Only a fool offers his products and services for less than he thinks they are worth.

I often laugh at the pricing on many eBay items, but to start numerous threads complaining about them is a waste of time.

Agreeing to bid and pay a seller's stated shipping charges does not automatically make them "reasonable."
I believe the DSR asks whether the buyer thinks/thought they were reasonable, not if they were plainly stated in the auction.

For the record, I have never dinged anyone on shipping charges and rarely ever "fill out" any of the stars. I simply leave a positive and move on.

I usually just complain about how much I've paid for an item...."How could he have made me bid a hundo on that?"

I honestly can't recall if I've voiced complaints about seller's shipping & handling charges before on the forums... but I do internally, and consider when buying... and leaving feedback.

I sell on eBay too... nowhere near as much as I buy, but I do. I don't know when eBay implemented, and perhaps I missed the uproar, but I had no idea until recently that eBay also instituted an additional final fee if don't offer free shipping!

I do not sell on eBay, like it's a business and/or a big part of my life... and therefore, I don't buy shipping supplies in bulk and I don't print my shipping from eBay/Paypal (I understand this is cheaper, but I've never tried it). I charge $3.75 for a single graded card. I buy, and ship in, the larger (size 0) padded envelopes from Walmart... that breaks down to $0.65 an envelope. eBay now places a $0.34 charge against a $3.75 S&H fee. For me, depending on where the receipeint lives... the standard postage charge is either $2.87 or $3.31.

Either way, at a $3.75 S&H charge... I lose (not loose) either $0.11 or $0.55 everytime I ship a card!

Like people have stated here, and it makes sense, buyers should factor the charge (since it advertised in the auction) into their bid... I do when I'm buying!

Regardless... I still get stars dinged for the shipping & handling charge DSR from time to time! I ship fast, I lose money on S&H every time, and the rate was clear as day before the bid... yet I still get dinged!

Given all this, yes, S&H is still forefront on my mind when I buy. I don't necessary complain about it, at least publically, but I will ding a seller if they either:

    a) Charge a ridiculous S&H fee, upfront, even if it's listed... IE, more than $5... and the shipment clearly isn't handled in a fashion commensurate with that known inflated fee
    b) Has a fair S&H fee, but ships poorly and/or cheaply

For example with B... I've had a seller charge me $2.50 for S&H... and I received the PSA graded card in a PWE with $1 worth of stamps on the envelope... or, the seller charges a fee like mine... say $3.50-4.00... and sends slowly, a graded card, unprotected in a small (000) bubble mailer with a Paypal shipping label (no price shown, but known to be approx. $0.70-1.25 cheaper than I pay going to the post office)

At the end of the day... i've simply resigned myself to the fact that I now only offer free shipping on my BIN and BIN/BO listings... and will always charge S&H on auction style listings (as clearly, not everyone factors S&H into their bid), and if my stars get hit... so what... it's the only way I can best limit the amount of the sale lost to shipping!
  • Smuggo, you're on to something here. Why is this concept so difficult to comprehend.

I don't know what you consider to be "bulk", but you can buy 20 (size 0) bubble mailers on ebay for about $6 (30 cents each), with free shipping.

I charge $3 to ship, and $1 for each additional card, with a cap at 7$.

Thanks for the heads up... I'll definitely check that out! Right now I just buy the 5-packs at Walmart for $2.99+tax. 20 is definitely not bulk, as a run to Walmart for them is usually a 3 or 4 pack purchase.
