Enjoyed collecting a lot more when the grading system was non existent

Just not as fun anymore, but that's just me. You can't get as much money for your card if it is not graded. bring back 1985 when it was more enjoyable.

    Maybe as a seller.
As a buyer, I'd rather be in 2012.
  • Also 2011 topps heritage packs are $3.00 a pop. I remember back in 1987 when i bought 50 packs of 87 donruss for 35 cents a pack......the good ole days

Collecting was definitely more fun back before the experience of buying a pack of cards began to more closely resemble the experience of purchasing a lottery ticket.
  • Pretty sure you can still obtain those 87 topps packs for something near that level.

Ah... the good old days! PSA Registry company sets are not my thing... but I am working on a PSA 10 1988-89 Fleer Basketball set. I don't even collect basketball cards (outside of MJ), but that is undoubtedly my most nostalgic set memory. My neighbors and I going to the corner store, three blocks away, every week on allowance day to buy as many of the $0.35 packs that we could... for months on end. We lived in Michigan... and the Pistons were good then... but my neighbors (three brothers) were originally from Chicago, I was from Rockford (moved to MI in 85) and we were all Bulls fans. There was nothing like the rush of pulling a Jordan, or Pippen RC, or Grant RC... or that kick ass Jordan AS card! Collectively, we probably built and sold 100 of those sets at local shows. 24 years later... I still look back on that set as my favorite of all time!

Well, if you're going to lock him in a room... don't just give him baseball card wrappers... he'll starve to death (so it's essentially killing). Make sure the wrappers are 80's era Topps, from recent rips... at least leave him the gum with the wrappers!

NOTE: Of course, I kid, Joe's a good guy

I use to trade with a guy who had a card shop in his garage back in 1987, I sold him my commons and made money, can't do that now. card shops in my town are closing down and a box of 2011 topps heritage is $80.00 bucks (if your lucky) and you only get 24 packs with 9 cards....its become a joke.

Sounds like you need to take a break from collecting.

How much were you paying for a gallon of gas in 1987? i was paying somewhere around 85 cents i think it was. Gas ain't 85 cents a gallon anymore Brother.

even more reason not to spend 80 bucks on a box of heritage, thanks for proving my point

On one hand, you said you miss the good ole days when you could buy 87 Topps wax packs for 50 cents a pack, which of course was well before the advent of card grading, and then otoh you said it's not worth buying those same 87 wax packs (which are still available for 50 cents a pack) because the cards aren't worth anything unless they're graded PSA 10. So do you miss the good ole days before grading or you want to pull only those cards that will grade PSA 10? You can't have both..
