Care to share what the items were and what prices they brought??

I have used PWCC in the past, and while I have always been pleased with his professionalism and the way he runs his auctions, I am sometimes a little underwhelmed at the prices my consignments bring......

The Rube Marquard single signed baseball I posted a few weeks ago is currently up thanks to Rick.

I'm hoping to see a nice ending price!!
  • Here is a few of them...

Bo Jackson getting $80... Canseco getting $80... Pretty amazing

(1,2,3,4,5 all bring you to different auctions)

A couple of years ago, Probstein sold me a 1977 Topps Mark Fidrych proof card, originally from the Topps Vault, for a price roughly 1/10th of what I would have paid for it. On Christmas Day, no less.

Consider it permanently off the market!
  • Congratulations Sean.

I spoke with Mike yesterday and he was telling me that Rick was the way to go for these types of things and now I can see why he's correct. Once our Canseco cards come back (which they're being shipped off tomorrow) one of the things im getting signed is my 86 Donruss Rack Pack sealed with Canseco on top. Hopefully get it graded asap and sent off to Rick for consignment. I"ll be happy if I get over $250 for it hoping that it"ll be a 1 out of 1.

All of those items appear to be quite unique and/or uncommon. Do you actually have recent price comparisons that suggest you got "amazing prices"?
  • hookemhookem Posts: 971 ✭✭
I've said it here before but I will say it again. I will probably never list another card auction style again. All my auctions will go to Rick forward going. Prices have been great but service is what separates him from the rest. To me it is not worth the time and hassle to list when you consider all the factors: listing time, collecting, packaging, tracking, feedback, disputes, etc. In the end I get as much if not more money and all I do is ship one package and collect a check.

I don't have much to sell right now but if I ever liquidate my rookie card collection VCP of $20Kish, I know what I will do.

Let me fix my statement, he would communicate in the same day... typically I'd be getting things as late as 10-11 before

But yes, I've asked small questions and he has no problem answering them.

And I'm sure you see how much more bold their auto is. I'm extremely pleased with my prices.

    Great post.

Sean - Glad to hear it went well.

hookem - I agree with your comments. Very true.

  • How much money is lost to people selling on consignment when he will not ship outside of the US? There are safe ways to do it.

Agree as well, I don't authenticate anything... So when he gets it done not only does it save me the hassle of shipping dealing with psa/jsa/whoever, but also everything you brought up, time tracking feedback etc. I just sent him about 80 autographs, none of which I'd send off for authentication simply because I don't grade/authenticate (but good autos), but he gets them done and lists no problem.

I find it strange that two "different" members on here who happen to have Underdog as their avatar are questioning the use of ebay consignors. wallst32's thread from last night. Just struck me as odd, that's all.
  • I just happened to pick this avatar. I am not trying to rock the boat. I live in Canada and would love to bid on some of Probstein's auctions. That's all that I am trying to say.

Have you ever tried contacting him? I'm in the US so don't have any problems but... Seriously have you tried asking him if he will ship to you?

OK for you US sellers, here is how it goes. If you go the US bidders only route and a bidder outside trys the ask the seller a ? route this is what you get. We're sorry we couldn't find an answer for you. Unfortunately, this seller is not able to respond to your question. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if your answer is in the seller's listing. Mike
  • I don't know, he is on these message boards you can PM him and ask him.

I ship out of country and have had no problems... Just sent a Gretzky/Sakiz photo to Canada.
  • There is a way around this. You go to completed auctions and pick an item that is closed. Then the ask seller a question will work, but in most cases the item has sold. I bet most US sellers did not know about this flaw in ebay selling. Mike

You can ask that question to seller right through ebay. I ship only to US normally, too, but if a buyer with a good payment record asks me if I'll ship to Canada, I usually say yes.

No you can not ask the seller a question through ebay if you have will ship to the US only checked off in your listing. Mike

I've consigned CFL stuff through him before. HE's a class act, great communication, and he has already made all of his listings available to the big canadian buyers. I may be wrong, but you can probably just shoot him a mail to get on the bidder ok list..

Why not just PM him on this board?

Thanks, I could do that. What I am saying is that not all ebay international buyers are members of this forum. There is a major flaw in ebays ask seller a question. Mike

LOL, I don't even know Ekim2528. So please stop with the conspriacy theories. My question was asking why people are willing to pay more buying from a well known consigner. It's the same issue as buying the card or buying the grade; buying the seller or buying the card? I asked because one of those so called well known consigner's has a card of interest to me that's was aready bidding above market rate with days left to go.

  • Probstein123 is like the Rotisserie... Set and forget it!

I'm getting weekly shipments out to him, sometimes bi weekly. It gives me time to sort, submit for grading, and rip into new product. Other than a couple spelling errors after several thousand items listed, there has never been an issue. I've been having Rick sell my cards for over a year now.

I don't know if you've looked or not, but Rick is now the #1 seller of sportscards/memorabilia on EBay.

Thanks again Rick for all that you do.
