A million dollar set.

I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector.
Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.

great set whoever assembled it
in the stewart has nothing to worry about here crowd...i am
Sounds to me like it's part of the registry.
Based upon that description it would be this set.
The Steve Stockley collection of Lincoln cents. I believe he worked about two years assembling the set. I wonder if David Lawrence
Bought the set out right or if they gave him a big cash advance. I am sure if you check out the Heritage web site you can find images of many of the coins. Perhaps Andy Sold him most of the + coins. Another Flash, here today and gone tomorrow.

their Baltimore sale. They have just posted. This is the Colin Withers collection. I believe his set was #6 in the Complete Variety category. Also a lot of nice Lincolns. Probably not
much in the way of helping Gerry and Stewart, but the rest of us will be drooling over some of the offerings. Happy hunting everyone!!!
results... but in my mind the first thing I thought of was "what is wrong with the
other coins that did not sticker? Not good enough for the grade? Did the color turn
in the holder?"
Which leads me to think any extra profit on CAC stickered ones will be offset by lower
prices on the non stickered coins. Defeating the purpose of sending the coins to be
CAC'd in the first place.
As for the 55 DDO.. i cannot tell if it is nice or not using those pics. Plus it did not
CAC... thus I would, if I was in the market for such an expensive coin, not give it
much more thought. Basically attempting to make my point above. Who wants a
left over coin that did not pass CAC? Pfft. Save my money for something else.
Am I the only one who thinks like this if I was going to really stretch for an expensive
coin?
<< <i>The images are not very good. Many of the coins graded RD certainly do not look RD to me. They look more like RB. >>
My thoughts exactly.

I think I read it was a 10 year endeavor. Whatever. There are some nice ones mixed in with some less so. Makes for fun pickin'.
Lance.
-beautiful collection; many nice gems in there
-a cryin' shame that scans are being used, might as well leave the boxes blank
-a bit surprised to see how many of the pedigreed coins did not sticker (especially the # of Jack Lee)
-tough to get stickers on the teens and 20s D & S mints; I like that about JA, he holds those coins to the same standards as the P mints
-good luck to anyone bidding

Not going to happen.
Indeed. It's a shame to have a nice product (auction format) and be known for horrible pics. Buying from their pics is just about like buying sight unseen.
Did anyone hear where the public viewing will take place ? Will David Lawrence overnight the coins to prospective buyers ?
I heard this is a million dollar collection. I hope DLRC does not plan to sell this collectors coins with not so good images.
I don't need to hear the value of Lincoln cents will go down even lower.
I was told when a collection gets sent to CAC and less than 30% of the collection stickers the auction company talks the consignor into
Peeling off the stickers so as not to lower the value of the unstickered coins.

Stewart,
I don't know how long Mr. Stokely spent accumulating his Lincoln cent collection, but the fact remains that many, if not most, of the "top registry people" are always looking to maximize their "investment". The few true long term numismatists like you, Gerry, Pete, Doug, etc. who enjoy the collection more for its historical and collection attributes than for its potential monitary rewards are far fewer in this hobby in my opinion. I have more fun owning and enjoying my collection of Lincoln cents than worrying when I should sell out in order to maximize profit. JMHO. Steve
