Fun box to rip. There is a Dwight Gooden from that set that has yet to get a 10. The first one probably won't bring much cabbage, but it would be nice to pull one from a pack some 20+ years later

Actually the Gooden card that has no 10s is the #405 All Star card, not the #480 base card, which has six 10s.
Does the Gooden card have no 10s because it's a tough card or just because no one in their right mind would spend $5 to grade a 1988 Topps baseball card?

I wanted to double-check those pop facts before I ran upstairs to my card dungeon and yanked out the vending CASE that I bought in my hunt for the elusive Ripken base card.
(that case yielded terrible results)

I ended up buying a PSA 10 on ebay for about $100.

I bought a 1988 Topps rack box as part of my Black Friday purchase, and put the set together over the holidays. Pulled a dead centered, perfectly registered, no print defect Ripken..... with one corner that was about 8/10.
30 years from now, when people start trying to do a graded 1988 set, they're going to have a lot of trouble. That set is rife with poor centering, print defects, and poor registry.
ETA: Which is a shame, because I really like the simplicity of the design and color in the set.
Yes, it was a chore to go through EACH box. I pulled the star cards, if you want to call them that. Subbed a couple Ryans too. No 10s at all. I've grown to hate that set. lol

You can add poor paper stock to that list. I hate my childhood's generation of cards...
I also picked up my vending case on Black Friday (the first year BBCE offered it). Picked up that case for $63 shipped!

That's what? 12,000 cards?
