CYA when shipping a Vending Machine!

Afternooon,

Have a serious offer on my 1968-1970 Trading card Pack Vending machine, for $700. Machine is about 2 ft tall be 18" wide and 12" deep and weighs about 30-40 pounds. Sale is complicated by the fact it is a consignment item and will be shipping direct to the buyer from NY where the consigner has it in his possesion, I am in Colorado. My consignor wants to ship it United Parcel Service. What way do I have to require him to ship it, to be covered by Paypal. He stated he will insure it for $750 with them. Does UPS do Signature Delivery? Is it Paypal compliant?

Any other ins/outs I should be aware of?

Thanks

Neil

  • Yes - UPS is 100% Paypal Compliant.

UPS Calls it "Signature Required". I would personally tell them Adult Signature Required... That gets them to make sure the person is over 21 and lets you see the signature of who signed for it.

You put it in on paypal the same way you put a USPS if you shipped it at the post office... Click the drop box... Mark As Shipped.... Refresh page, click insert tracking, UPS, and put the info they give you in.

Make sure to add "Adult signature required" just as you would ad DC or Sig Conf @ the post office.

    Good luck,

With an item like that, I would seriously consider taking it to a UPS store and having them pack it for me. It does cost something, but UPS would be responsible if it gets damaged.

I would watch the TV show Shipping wars. You will get some good ideas of what not to do.

  • Afternoon,

My consigner has some sort of relationship with the UPS Store where he live in NY. They already had Professionally packaged it when we listed the machine a year ago, so it would be ready for ship when it sold. I just wanted to be sure that UPS gave me all the protections that USPS offered with Sig Delivery, and from what Sean said (And BTW thanks), it sounds like they do.

Oh and let this be lesson about stuff sitting in your Store, 13 months of BIN, cost me all of .65 cents for that time frame of exposure, 4 serious negotiated offers, and we got what we wanted!

    Thanks both
