OT: OK B&M store owners. I nees some info for a school paper

BBNBBN Posts: 3,761 ✭✭✭
In my class we are doing a paper on starting a business and we are supposed to supposed to show the first five years of revenue and expenses. I myself am wanting to do mine on starting a B&M coin shop that also has a website. I just have a question of a few expenses and I can build from there. If you could answer these few questions that would be great. I'll then take the numbers and average them out such as rent, utilities, etc. OK, here we go.

What is/was your avg monthly store rent/mortgage?

How much did you spend monthly on uitlities such as lighting and water?

How much money did you spend on supplies for coins (flips, 2x2s, boxes, stationary for mail orders)

Tech stuff such as web site monthly cost, maintenance, etc.

All of your help would be greatly appreciated. image

Then there's the kickbacks to the carpenters, and if you plan on using any cement in this building I'm sure the teamsters would like to have a little chat with ya, and that'll cost ya. Oh and don't forget a little something for the building inspectors. Then there's long term costs such as waste disposal. I don't know if you're familiar with who runs that business but I assure you it's not the boyscouts."

LOL Sadly, that all is true. I don't think my instructor would like that explanation though. image

  • You might be better doing your research the old fashion way by personalty going and interviewing one in your area instead of asking for a shot gun public disclosure of personal information. Good luck though and maybe someone here can recommend a old school dealer with a soft spot for YN

Thanks for that info. I kind of thought some may not want to disclose that info. Took a stab at it though. I'm not young though, 41. Well depends on who you ask. LOL

  • What part of Illinois are you located? The location of the shop vastly controls costs(rent, utilities, advertising)e small town versus large city.

If you get an 'A' or 'B' on the paper, maybe you'd be interested in selling a copy (it'd keep my GPA up...lol)? It'd save me time (of which I have NONE) when I have to do mine!!! (j/k...I think...almost....lol)
    I'll come up with something.

Hey, I'm near Carbondale. I got a hold of a friend of mine who owns a tanning salon downtown here in a storefront building which is the scenario I wanted to create. Something in a downtown area of the "old town" that most towns have now. She gave me full details of rent on her block and her power which I was surprised at how low it is considering the tanning beds using power.

Now I just need to find out how much one can expect to maintain a website and store supplies such as stationary.

  • Don't forget fixed expenses like coin insurance and alarms to name a few.

Variable expense like travel to and from shows, and grading costs can be a little more difficult on a monthly basis.
