Question on grading...

I have a 09 S/Horz S. Will PCGS grade it on the label that way or do I have to submit it as an error and pay the extra? Anyone know? Thanks

  • I think only varieties listed in the Redbook are included in the regular submission price. For this I would imagine you'd have to pay an extra $24 attribution fee. Someone with more experience can confirm this though.

Edit: Interestingly though, small cents don't appear to be on the recognized variety attribution list located here. So not sure if they'd do it. Someone who knows what they're talking about will be along to answer the question though.

The 1909-S/Horizontal S is listed in the Redbook, but I'm not sure if you have to pay the extra $24 fee (in addition to the grading fees). You should call PCGS to confirm.

Be sure to submit the coin under the correct coin number depending on what you want... there are two different coin numbers for this coin. If you use 92434, they'll just put "S/Horizontal S" on the label... perhaps that is the one they'll do for free if anything... If you use 37645, they'll also put the Cherrypicker's Guide number as "FS-1502 (FS-012.3)" on the label. If know you'll get charged the $24 extra for sure if you want that FS number on the label.

By the way, it's not an "error," it is a "variety."
