What is your favorite cheap wax rip?

Mine is 1986 Fleer baseball. Back in the day I couldn't afford the set because my local dealer wanted $85!image

Last pack I ripped I pulled the Mickey Hatcher with his "big" glove. Good times!

  • 1987 Topps baseball or 1991 Skybox, I love the Jordan with him playing golf on the back.

I remember laughing at the notion he was going pro at golf after b-ball.

Ive been ripping a few different cheaper boxes lately. Its pretty fun and brings back a lot of memories for me. I will be interested to see some others replies. I have a box of 84 Topps I will be busting soon. I also opened 6 packs of 83 Topps today and that was fun.

and since they are only $10 a box, no guilt in throwing them out after ripage

    Past tense for me.

Don't really get involved with the stuff anymore but it was 92UD and 87D.

I moved to a new city a couple years ago and the local party store had a box of 89 Topps for .25 a pack so I bought the whole box because I remembered my old man pulling up in the driveway with one back in 89 and being excited that we might pull a Jefferies RC. My Mom was so upset that he paid $40 or $50 bucks for it. Looks like she was right.image

1983 Topps Football... still had for $80 or less a box... Marcus Allen RC, Mike Singetary RC... and a good chance and pulling high grrade cards of Montana, Payton, McMahon RC, etc... I buy at least one box a year... or so, from BBCE. Love the stuff!!!
  • I have not ripped a pack in over 20 years.

It's just cheaper to by the cards you want.

BBCE selling 87 Donruss wax for $15/box, with holiday discount and free s/h it was $13.50 delivered.

Big fan of Clemente puzzle, then you've got RC's of some of the greats (juice or no juice), and Mad Dog. With the box you get the bottom, which has one of my favorite Canseco cards.

I usually add a box to all of my orders from BBCE, all I keep is the Jordan and Chipper... and search for the Ryan autograph.

I don't know how many are still left out there but I assume there is still one or two ... nothing like searching for the needle in the haystack, you know.

    Thank you,
    -Larry

1989 Pro Set series 2 football boxes are my favorite. If there is anything boring about opening a wax box, it is predictability. These boxes are about as unpredictable as you will find. I have pulled anywhere from 0 to 7 Barry Sanders rookies from a box. Same with the Troy Aikman rookie.

wow, 86 fleer... made like 40 sets of those but sold them too cheap...then i bought packs from card collectors company for 25 cents each and must have pulled about 25 canseco rookies....easy sell at 18.00 each back in the day
always looking for 1969 graded basketball

I'm like Dave and haven't rip a pack in years, but I've bought plenty. I just can't rip them no matter what though I only collect unopened from the early 80's and 70's now. I do have plenty of unopened junk wax boxes, but I still can't bust them. I think I have 4 1991 Fleer rack boxes alone. I probably need professional help. image

And I'm not asking for volunteers to rip my packs either Eric. image

Any unopened Baseball cello and rack packs and boxes from the 1970's and early 1980s.

Totally agree - love the 89 Ser 2 Pro Set. Last one from BBCE had 5 Sanders and 1 Aikman. Total crap shoot

I also have a huge weak spot for Wild Card - especially the collegiate football. I loved pulling stripes when I was a kid, going to the beckett, and multiplying the value by the stripe.

LOL...those 1991 wild card boxes are one of my favorites as well.
