1823 Capped Bust Half. Can't find the O# in my book. ?Counterfeit?

It kinda rings of silver I suppose and looks like it was polished a long time ago.

No "T-I" relationship to go by, but the "D-E" relationship is clear. The curl of the 3 in the date doesn't look like any in the book. Too bad about the hole. Thought it was the o-109 but all the serifs on all of the A's are there.

Sorry for the bad pics. Had to snap them on an almost dead battery. The viewer wouldn't even come on to let me see where I was aiming.

Is that color true? Looks like silvered brass.

pretty close. the darker areas (grey) on the coin are muted and the lighter (whiter) areas are really shiney.

Looking at the coin again in hand with a loupe and comparing them to the pics, the areas on the Eagle's head/neck area, right wing, and top of left wing, and right banner appears to have a very light copper color coming thru.

Could well be Bogie 1A, the most common for 1823.

Yep, definitely counterfeit. Made in at least 2 types of metals

It's probably worth more, and is easier to sell, since it is a counterfeit!

here is one with more detail, a very effective counterfeit. mine appears to be a german silver alloy, with a thin plating to keep it "shiny" i would say yours is also.
