Ebay Complaint & 1989 Upper Deck Low Series Box Possible Scam Question

I got a case of 1989 Upper Deck Low recently. The case was open and all of the boxes did not have a plastic wrapper. The seller told me these boxes came in the case with no wrapper. He is a friend so I did not think anything of it. I busted a few boxes and had a few hits, but nothing sexy. I shrugged my shoulders and knew it was the cost of doing business. Anyway, I always intended to resell the boxes. I listed them on ebay and sold 3 right away. Fast forward 4 days later and I get an ebay msg from a buyer claiming of the two boxes he brought from me, not one card that was pulled from the packs that had a number less than 100 and accused me of making "set up" boxes. I am not familiar with this term, so I asked him to describe what he was accusing me of. He stated I opened packs from other boxes with lows #'ed cards and once I started to hit high #s, I stopped opening and reloaded these unopened packs into other boxes to form "set up boxes" of junk cards with no chance of pulling a Griffey. He said my perfect feedback rating was about to suffer, but did not threaten, just stated his intentions.
Anyway, are there any 1989 Upper Deck box buster experts in the forums that can explain to me if his accusation is even possible? Or is this guy making stuff up? Or a pure conspiracy theorist? Did I basically fall into a bad deal here or is this buyer simply sore on his bad luck?

<< <i>I don't believe your buyer. >>
+1
<< <i>UD boxes came both UD shrink wrapped and unwrapped. It was quite easy to identify runs and someone with nefarious intentions could simply pull the keys at the time and replace them with "dead" packs. >>
Would they also pull all cards numbered below 100?
The buyer is liar IMHO.

That is what I am saying. Total BS.
Also, how do you even prove this to ebay or paypal in a dispute? I know ebay is on the side of buyers these days. Do I have a chance in the end here? He has now threatened me with neg feedback via ebay messaging. For what its worth I removed the item from ebay.
No worries, just dont give in and give him a dime.
<< <i>I wouldn't give a dime back either. I can't see how he can prove his case. I would guess he missed on Griffey in two boxes? >>
Yes, this appears to be the case.

I have seen that.

I can see the buyer's point though. I am sure most of the people on this site would be upset if they purchased 2 boxes on ebay with no seal and then did not receive any Griffey's. I am sure there would be a witch hunt for the seller. I am not saying the seller did anything wrong or that there was any foul play. i am just saying that i can see the buyer's point. Opening up boxes is always a gamble. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I would not offer a refund either by the way.

<< <i>I don't recall any of the 1989 upper deck foil product being shrinkwrapped until 1990. >>
This-
The 89 Low numbers werent shrinkwrapped at all, but I could be wrong. I do remember the 90 basketball being real easy to pull the Johnsons and Mutombos out, but thought that the 89 UD was a little too random for perfect sequencing. Not only that, but I also recall opening packs bought from grocery stores that had numerical sequencing in them, which was odd, but the packs werent resealed at all, so I think there were collation issues as well

I had a direct account with UD and my early cases were not shrink wrapped. My high number cases were not shrink wrapped. I was able to purchase 5 additional low number cases just after the high numbers arrived and those boxes WERE shrink wrapped with a UD logo on the wrap.
Similarly, my late cases of 1992 Bowman were shrink wrapped with a Topps logo'd wrap (the early cases were not wrapped). Most I've seen, aside from the Jumbo boxes, have not had the Topps logo if they were wrapped at all...
Regarding 1989 UD, this was one of the first releases that didn't use the same card sequence based on sheet location; it was supposed to be all random. But I did hear a lot of chatter about how the boxes were searchable, but I never quite understood how that was possible.
Same for basically every rookie.
I can remember watching boxes being opened and seeing exactly what the buyer claims. (Not saying he should be refunded)
1990 Donruss went one step further not only would you get the same 100 numbers
but you would get 3 of the same card in a pack. It was 1990 the height of the over production of cards.
Lets say you opened the 1st pack in the front/right row and got a rookie number 7, the next pack would have 6 or 8,. If you had 2 rookies in the pack,
it was a very good box.
