1973 Topps BB Error?

I was sorting through my 73's tonight and I came across this card. The card is miscut, but the back of the card has been printed upside down. The back also has the wrong player listed.

I guess the only way for this to happen is if the sheet was put in upside down right?

Does anyone else have any cards that have been printed upside down?

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Just a common wrongback error. I also have a couple like that.
  • What about it being printed upside down or are all wrong back cards printed upside down?

I was also wondering about the card numbers. The "All Time Strikeout Leaders" is card # 478, The Corkin of course is 461, the Carlton is 300. I don't know how the cards are laid out, but I always thought all the 400's would be together and the 300's and so forth.

Do you know where the Carlton #300 would be on the sheet?

I've seen wrong backs, but nothing ever like that.

    Nice find.

    Good for you.

Same here Steve, I have other "wrong backs", but they are not printed upside down.

I agree with Steve ... I have a couple of wrong backs from the '69 set but nothing that is upside down.

I wondered the same thing, the Carlton card is from the third series 265-396 and the Corkins is from the fourth series 397-528. Probstein123 has a 1973 Topps Nolan Ryan second series with a fourth series Topps Rick Reuschel back on Ebay which has also puzzled me. There are 1979 Topps baseball cards printed with left over 1978 backs, maybe it is similar to that.

Regarding the distribution of the 73's

IIRC it was discussed here a few years ago, probably more, and at that time
some claimed that after the summer Topps began selling all series in the same pack.
Or, at the time one could find 1st with 2nd and 2nd with 3rd. Not sure.

This may be the reason that 2nd series cards were being printed along with 3rd.

I tried to find the thread but, you know how that goes.

    Good for you.

There were definitely "All Series" packs distributed by Topps in 1973.

    Thanks John. I thought so.
    Good for you.
  • Any area that received the 1973 Topps Team Checlists got the cards issued in all five series together.

That is why the 73 Topps Team Checklists are in much smaller supply than the 74's

Yes, only certain parts of the country got all 5 series together
