What does everybody think of these t206's and w514's??

This is a local craigslist add near me. I dont see anything wrong with the add such as a scam but i was just wondering what everyone thought about whether they are originals and what a fair price would be for them. Just looking for some info.

  • The W514's look good from what I can tell from a photo. I've had many in the past. The ones pictured would grade Authentic. All were cut incorrectly.

Once again with a skewed opinion someone speaks.

I've had extreme success on CL, I've found some lots similar to what you have, but I spend hours a day going through hundreds of ads

He's got a EPDG back, which is rare, as well as some other back variations.

I just recently sold a Ruth strip is extremely poor (probably Auth) condition, I got $300 for it. . Marquards are probably $100 each, Young depends on back, I just sold an old mill back psa 1, the guy resold is for $293.

Just do your research and you won't be stung, retail is retail so as long as he is realistic you should do well. First Ruth is 1923 #3 W515-1... I believe the second one is also a W515, #47, not sure if -1 or -2.

Does anyone know of an actual value of all these in their conditions?

  • That's the work of the person buying the lot.

You should be able to get that in about 30 minutes of ebay snooping - I looked up a decent number of them on ebay and all were there. The El Principe back might not be on their as well as a couple of the other variations but you can guestimate, for instance I got 3x premium on a few EP backs I found 2 months ago on craigslist.

Ok I'll look on eBay for a while. I just don't know a ton about prewar cards. I don't usually deal with them.

  • $3900 is too much. The W cards will not grade out. They are AUTHENTIC only. The T206's are not worth the balance.

This person is clearly overpricing the cards due to the Ruth. W cards are not easy to find, but are also not highly collected.

Found in Dad's attic; needs money for Christmas? Is this an old listing or does this guy *really* plan ahead this far? image

I don't know for certain they are fake, but obviously there's a pretty sizeable risk buying from somebody like this unless you're very familiar with the set.

  • Cards are real but I dont think that lot even adds up to 1k of cards
  • I think a fair offer would be ~$1500 for the lot, and you could *probably* get around $2K if you sold it. The Ruth's can probably be sold for around $300 each. The second Ruth is a W515-2 since it had those words at the top. It's coloring looks a little strange however, but it's *probably* authentic. (Ruth strip cards are reprinted a lot, btw.) The Cobb Strip card you could probably get $150-200 for. I'm not very knowledgeable with T206's especially the back variations. However, there are HOFers like Cy Young and Christy Mathewson. With other HOFers like Lajoie, Waddell and Marquard and the backs like American Beauty, Old Mill, and EDPG, you *should* be able to get $1K from those.

found in an attic in 1990s Era screwdowns lol image ya right

    authentic, collector grade
T206 and W514* cards are very very common... and easily valued
Im surprised no one here has correctly IDed many the cards..... image PS. I see Sean did on the Ruths
    *Burns is a W516-1
    *Ruths (both) are W515-2
    *Sisler is a W551

EPDG cards are far from rare (thousands of them are out there), they are common for cards made in that Era. T206 cards overall are extremely common, the most common prewar cards ever made.
The AB460 card is more desirable than a EPDG, but it too is not Rare

W514 is nearly the most common W cards out there too. same with the other strip cards shown (if they were something like W519-2-2 cards I would jump at them in any condition, but not so on the W514, W515, W516, W551's in collector grade)

with that said, the quote of $9K would make me move to the next add immediately. overhype and overvalued is an understatement here

lot is worth about $1000 on a good day... if that.......... and if cards like the Lajoie are not "too small"

You may want to buy books and research the stuff you are looking to buy (flip?) before blindly buying... this is a good start though... posting the Q here
    good luck

He has an appraisal from "bill's antique cards." How can you argue with that?

My 2 cents....I'd pay $700 for all of the T206's...not sure what to offer on the strip cards.
  • The best "W" cards:

    Ruth X2
Buck Weaver - 1919 Black Sox - Rare and sell for high value even in "Authentic" condition
    George Sisler
Ty Cobb - Is authentic only. Left side at top is miss cut, entire right side appears to be missing top layer of paper. But still a nice card.

The "W" cards are worth in the range of $1000 (Ruth usually sells for around $300+, Cobb 200+, Weaver 200+)

The "T" cards all depend on back and what they would get graded.
