Would it be bad ebay selling etiquette if...

I plan on selling quite a large amount of vintage baseball cards/sets on ebay (not sure when I will be done getting pictures and making the auctions). I plan on listing 2 sets by individual card that are at least 60-75 percent finished, and a bunch of other sets that have ~100 cards each (give or take) Anyway, would it be bad etiquette to add "set break" to auction titles of the sets with only 100 or so cards from the set? Obviously I want people to check out the other cards that I have up from the set for auction espcially for the free combined shipping, but I don't want to tick anyone off as I see how touchy people can be about certain things. Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Hal

Everyone else on eBay lies and states the cards are from like a set break, estate sale, flea market find, inherited from my dead grandfather, etc so why the hell not make up a really nice story also.

You can use the phrase "partial set break" in your descriptions--saying you are selling 100 or so cards from that particular set, so bidders should check out your other auctions.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

I never understood why people put "set break" in their auctions anyway. What difference does it make if the card is from a broken-up set, a pack, or from a random box? Does that make it any more or less mint? I have plenty of crappy cards in sets, but if I break the set, putting "set break" in the title doesn't change the condition or value. Just something that bothers me. The "set break" never makes a difference to me, I still look at the card closely regardless.

Personally, it puts me off when I see "set break" in an auction title. I'm buying a card...I don't care if it's a set break or anything else. It's almost as if it insults my intelligence as a buyer and "set break" is supposed to draw me in.

Here is an example of my search for Topps sets and partial sets.....

'1968 Topps Set -break' (note the -break, I've added -bust recently as well, as people have been using 'set break bust')

I think that set break is keyword spamming for those of us who are searching for sets/partial sets. When, I'm searching for these, I can't stand wading through literally hundreds of listings for single cards.

I like when I am made aware of other cards from a set that I may also need.

How you word that to get me to look at your other auctions is the key part
to the puzzle. A simple please check out my other auctions for more cards from
this set and save on combined shipping works for me.

Claiming a card is from a set break:

Means IMO (in theory) there will be others from the set available.

That is funny. I was just talking about putting "set break" in the title to immediately alert collectors to the fact that I have other cards from the set up for auction. I am not implying anything else about the cards, that is why I always have big scans of the front and back of the card in the item description.

I would put "set break from my dead grandfather that he found at a flea market." Might as well go for the gold.

I like set break listed as when psa sets are broken up it alerts me to more I may need.

    pwcc funny
that could mean pee wee's card catalog

I knew it wasn'y really pwcc as it would have also had ****hi end **** psa 8+++++++
    also with the description

  • When putting together a set, I like it when it says set break in the title alerting me that they have others for auction at the same time. Mainly I like this because of the savings on shipping that I can garner.

So it was wrong when I broke a 1951 Topps Magic set and only had 74 of 75 cards. image

Just kidding of course. I'd use it for almost any set where I have commmons and stars. I wouldn't use it if I had only the 30 HOF cards in a set, but a mix, let'um rip.

I agree with Rick on this. As a set collector, I appreciate 'Set Break' in the title. I tend to look and bid on more of the auctions that way. You will still upset a few with 'Partial Set Break' since it will still come up when you search 'Set Break' so I would advise against using 'Partial' in your title. I really hate the 'PSA?' in the title when it's a raw card. I always avoid these sellers. There were a couple of complete '69 Topps set breaks recently that seemed to do well. Full set breaks are appreciated and seem to receive good bids. Partials are always a bit difficult because inevitably the difficult cards are missing from the break. Anyway, good luck. It's a lot of work. - Kevin
  • "Set break" in the title does not bother me at all, regardless of how many cards from the set the seller is actually listing.

100% agree. When I see this I wish the seller were right next to me so I could punch him in the junk.
