Card lost in Mail - What to do?

I purchased a card for my 55 Topps set on Ebay about a month ago (1/27). I have a delivery confirmation number and can see the card was shipped the same day. On 1/30 it shows a scan at a post office close to my town, but not the normal PO I would see and the status reads "Missent - Your item was misrouted. The error has been corrected and every effort is being made to deliver it as soon as possible. No further information is available for this item." The status hasn't changed for the past 3 weeks.

I notified the seller, but obviously I don't think there is anything they will be able to do. I am confident they sent the card and did not try to scam me in any way.

Now, my question is what should I do?
1. Let it go and chalk it up to a loss?
2. File a claim with PayPal?

It has been a very long time since something has been lost in the mail for me, so what is the procedure everyone uses now?

If you are friendly with the clerk(s) at your local PO, I would go there and ask them to look into it for you. I know the clerks at my PO have done that for me.

I understand you dont think the seller is responsible, but it is his job to get the card to you. He is the one that has to file the claim and you will be the one refunded. He will be out the money and the card, so I would think he might want to do something besides sit on the sidelines on this one.

    Good luck

I would let the Post Office know. I had a card that showed delivered but it showed up 30 days later. Most likely the Post Office delivered it to the wrong address and it is taking time to get back to you.

  • Thanks for the opinions. I will check with the PO and let ebay/PayPal deal with the rest if needed.

I've had cards turn up 60 days later or not at all. Its a crapshoot. And this is why I insure everything I ship...unfortunately it costs more and leads to dinged stars.
