Wat OT,I mean WAY OT ( The True Cost of the Death Star )

This one is for Star Wars lovers out there: Economics students at Lehigh University have estimated it would cost $852 quadrillion -- that's 12 zeroes -- to buy all the steel needed to build the Death Star, the moon-sized weapon that Luke Skywalker blows up at the end of the original Star Wars film.

The blog post brought to mind a great graphic that our colleagues at The Huntsville Times once made, comparing the size of the Saturn V rocket to various Star Wars spaceships.

Appraisal on the death star was 852 quadrillion 4 years ago, but in this economy I can probably get it built for $60 per square foot.

Please put it in terms this board would understand... how many 52 Mantles,T206 Wagners, or 10-11 Lin's would that cost?

Might cost more if people know they need the steel to build the star ship. Im not selling until they are 60% done!

That, my friend, is why we conquer worlds and subjugate the meek. Sun Tzu wrote the book, and Tarkin read it.

Are you accounting for costs overruns? Don't think you can get it done at that price.

Think the average stormtrooper knows how to install a toilet main? All they know is killing in white uniforms. I bet they brought in independent contractors on that gig.

The movie clerks brough up a topic about all the deaths of civilains that were aboard the death star when it blew. I thought it was a good point until I read a book called "Death star" and it said that only violent crinimals were used in the construction so that all the deaths after Luke blew it up were justified. Just the kind of things i think about during the day.

Lucas said in interviews that Greedo always shot first and that it just was never shown that way in the original film. I still don't buy it.

I don't buy it either... Remember in Empire Boba Fett says about Han "He's no good to me dead." So why would Greedo want to haul Han's corpse to Jabba?

Wow, all that money to build it, and they still left in a 2 meter wide
exhaust vent design flaw which allowed the whole thing to be blown up.

Lucas has an established pattern of revising history to his liking.

edit: Technically, it is his 'history' and can do what he wants with it, even if it is against the fans' wishes.

edited again: And those said fans have made Lucas hundreds of millions of dollars (and still counting).

edited one more time: But I'm not bitter or anything.
