How do you protect yourself from fraud ?

Hello, I was just wondering how most traders protect themselves from mail fraud. I have had a problem before with one trader, send a Money order and never received the card. This was protected by ebay (total was $368US, ebay gave me 200 less the 20 deductable) so I was still out $188US.

Now as for trading on the CU board, there is no real protection. Just looking up ref's etc. What I'd like to know is how some traders protect themselves from fraud? Do they keep a file of all messages, emails, scan's of the cards etc? Also, what about reporting fraud to different agencies? Does it work? I'd just like if you collectors out there have gone through any problems and how you solved them.

  • This place, you have to watch your own back. Check ref., do a search for their name to see if anyone has had any problems with them, etc. When doing a trade you don't want to get stiffed on, I suggest you send check or money order if paying and use "return receipt" or "certified". I would also recommend insuring package. If you trust whoever, then return receipt is not necessary. Another way, is to provide creditable references and ask them to send first.
