Looking at tonight's Teletrade auction and the prices are already very high on many common date coins. Wonder what's going on???

  • Can't speak for the Morgan Dollars, but the Peace Dollars seem to be in line with market values. Though a couple of the high dollar ones on now I personally wouldn't have bid on. My experience over the past couple of weeks has been that people put in their max bid right at the beginning and the bid rises up to around market value (with buyers fees included) and stays. Folks saw a coin that filled a hole and they bought it at the beginning. I haven't seen any Peaces flying out above market value or encountering heavy competition since there's really no need- unless an above average strike 21 comes up that would be desirable above market value. And I haven't seen any let off for substantially below market either.

What are you seeing with the Morgans? I need to learn more about that series. I find the sheer number of them daunting though. Beautiful coin...lots of different mint marks and history. I hope to get into them one day.

I bid on and won one Morgan dollar in Sunday night's auction. The coin is one that I sold several years ago for over $400. I bought it back last night for about40 percent of what I sold it for previously. I am happy to own the coin again.

I should say that I was shocked to have won it. Seems that most dollars are selling for top prices.

More evidence that the physical market is separating from the phony paper one.

The silver dollar market has been and can be stronger although at this time there are large volume buyers especially for the middle mint state grades. Contrary to other issues like Merc Dimes and Franklins there is no demand or price disparity between PCGS and NGC examples.
