Hayes/Grant medal mule

This is interesting, but not of any great value:
Hayes/Grant mule
Of course, it is not a coin and probably not subject to any strict quality control. For this reason Medal collectors do not put any premium on errors.
These "reproduction" - thats what the mint calls them - medals cost $7.95 at the US mint, and are just modern miniature reproductions of full size 19th century US Mint presidential medals. In fact, a full size 20th century Hayes oval Indian Peace medal had about half of them struck with the wrong reverse, missing the 1877 date. They bring zero premium over the price of just a regular one. And rightfully so.
These same $7.95 medals go unsold on eBay for a buck. I wouldn't pay 2 bucks for that mule.

I guess I wouldn't fork out a ton for it, but surely its worth at least a grand, right? The mule on one of the presidential spouse medals were going for a price obove $500.
Is the demand for these medals really just that low?
