87-88 fleer bkb wax case on bbce

Steve says:

<< <i>1987/88 Fleer Basketball Unopened Wax Case. Case is still originally factory sealed and contains 12 boxes, each box with 36 packs. This is the first case I have owned of these since 1987! In fact, I havent even seen a sealed case for sale in the last 10 years! Just an impossible case to find sealed. Sweet item with extreme rarity. >>

I see that it is marked $90.95. I'll take 10 at that price.

    Hiya Sean

Ya have 86F on the thread title.

If he winds up cracking the case? That's still an expensive box!

Underrated for its toughness in high grade and under produced as compared to the 86s (no facts to back up the production numbers).

    Thanks,

Are the boxes searchable to warrant the extra price per box from the case vs the individual box listed?

Yes they are in sequence Like the 1986 fleer and 1988 Fleer cases.
SO they can be searched. You can also see who the sticker is.

I can see a sealed case having a large premium to it with this issue.

Yes about 20% of this price is in the case being whole and sealed, to break this up would lose a lot of value.

I remember driving all night from 7-11 to 7-11, trying to find the new 1988 Fleer Baseball cards. At about 4 AM, and roughly twenty five stops, I found a box at the counter. They had even "marked up" the price to .85 per pack - an unheard of move for a convenience store. I told them I wanted to buy the whole box, but they said they had a five pack limit.

Then the manager came with his offer. He would sell me the entire remaining box of 1988 Fleer Baseball for .85 per pack, but only on the condition that I buy the 35 packs of 1987-88 Fleer Basketball that had been collecting dust on the shelf for a total of five bucks. Being a hoops fan, I agreed.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

  • Steve had said he would give us a deal if we wanted to do a group case break on this. I have one box from a sealed case, but would get another.

I'm not sure that would be a great deal. If you get a 10% discount you would still end up paying $50 more than just buying the $1150 single box he has up for sale. You'd have to get a 23% discount on the case for it to make breakeven financial sense.

Now if PSA could actually grade and encase a box as coming from a sealed case then you'd have another story for cracking this case.
