1959 Topps Gray Back question

Just wondering if there is any main difference in these. I sent in about 20 1959s and I think 2 of them were the gray backs. I didnt state that they were but just wondering if it even matters? Also were these canada issue or what? Any info would be great. They seemed thicker or more strong in hand and were a little more dark. The ones I had.
Thanks ahead.

Great article Doug and thank you for sharing. To add, cards from 199 to 286 appear with both the cream and grey color backs with no actual price differential
although it appears that the greys are less prominent than the cream color ones however each card in that group is available in both colors.The59 Set is my
    favorite set of all times.

As far as I know, the stock differences in the 59 set have nothing to do with their point of origin being in Canada. There has over time been some speculation that certain gray back, as opposed to white back cards, in the 1952 Topps set ( cards 131 to 190 ) and 1954 set ( cards 1-50 ), which are quite scarce and carry a large price differential...and also have a darker front appearance.... may have originated in Canada and been produced sometime after the regular cards. I do not think that has ever been established for certain.

It was not unusual for Topps sets in the 50s to have different colored stock in different series of cards. Although mixed backs in the same series seems odd, it occurred more than once. The 1960 set also has a series (375 to 440) that can be found with either white or gray backs. Same for cards 1 to 180 in the 1956 set. But, as far as I know, only the reputed "Canadian" gray backs from 1952 and 1954 carry significant premiums
