Fellow pack collectors--its great to be back on the forum!!!

I'm been away from the boards for over a year now but its finally time to come back. I love vintage unopened material and I began busting racks back in '68. Some of you on the board might remember me as the person who a spent the better part of a year tracking down ebay pack resealers & counterfeiters and exposing them on this board. I chose my Eastwood avatar because I have the reputation of telling it like it is, shooting from the hip, and not being afraid to challenge anyone's opinion or pack regardless of their stature in this hobby.
I've been extremely busy the past 18 months as my job required me to spend weeks at a time out of state building Home Depots. Additionally my father passed away from lung cancer 14 months ago and I spent all my free time with him as he fought his battle while living in a hospice for his last 6 months. And five months ago I finally was able to permanently leave California after 55 years and I am now settled in the beautiful, yet rainy city of Medford, Oregon!
Because of all that has been going on in my life I haven't viewed these boards or ebay for that matter in many months but my childhood love for baseball cards called me back (as it does for most of us here) and last week I dove back in with an ebay purchase. Incidently I was the person who turned Muggyman & cpaMike onto these boards so I can see that even during my prolonged absence I indirectly had some ongoing influence.
Anyways its good to be back and I'm looking forward to speaking once again with those friends I met here. My ebay purchase last week:

good to have knowledgeable pack collectors on board
You have so much knowledge and look forward to reading it now that I am a pack collector(with stars/rookies on top).
So glad you are back.

"If I have seen farther than most it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants"---Galileo (I think)
Seriously though, there are some real giants here on the boards and I learned most of what I know from them. The rest I just chalk up to trusting my common sense, instincts and wisdom which have been sharpened by 55 years of living.
Growing up on the streets of Los Angeles and learning to recognize and diagnose a scam by the age of 7 or 8 has helped as well I would guess!

Grote seems to somehow end up with my packs as well...
...and with regard to how you did during my absence I would say--you did well Pilgram.
So says the guy who just scooped up a 75 cello with Ryan on top and Bench on back, LOL..

Jim, it was an honor to view the pictures from your collection. To steal a famous line from Peggy Bundy in the tv show Married With Children--"I think I had my first real orgasm!"
Always fun and interesting to read how you nail the pack re-sealers.
Stay active like you used to. Good luck in your new home.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Always enjoyed reading your posts.
Are you hot on anyones trail!
Give us the new people to look out for!
Sorry to hear about your father.

I thought we weren't going to tak about that one.
On a serious note, I'd like to say I am very sorry to hear about your father. I believe you had told me that he wasn't doing well for awhile, but that never makes it easy when it happens.
Congrats on the move to Oregon. Rain is good, it helps cleanse the Earth, LOL.
Whatever you do, don't go on Jim's (MacrosB) thread. Oops, too late. Jim has fit in great with the rest of us unopened pack guys.
I'm sure I've picked up some more 75 racks you can look at.

Thanks once again and its good to be back, Don.
Sorry to hear about your Dad. Sounds like you focused on the right things last year.
And welcome to the Pacific Northwest!
Did you see that episode of Antiques Roadshow a few weeks back? A lady was on the show and she said she had 312 football cello packs from 1958 !! Her Dad used to have a candy store. The sample she had brought with her were just killer - Bart Starr, Unitas, other HOF'ers on the front.
Lets start a discussion - I see real strong prices right now for anything pre 1977 as far as cellos and racks - how much stuff do you think is still out there waiting to be "discovered" or is all the good stuff already in PSA and GAI holders?

<< <i>Welcome back. I still go back and refernece the PM's we exchanged in the past. I learned a lot. I look forward to talking about cello's and racks again!!

I did see the show and I know it originally aired many months ago and if my memory serves me correctly many of them were "slabbed". Regarding your answer as to whether I think there is still a lot of good stuff out there versus it drying up, I always use my stock answer--until Fritsch sells off all his vintage sealed cases and they find their way to the marketplace we really have little gauge or idea even as to what is still tucked away and might be coming down the pike in the future.

You owe everyone here a drink, or two, for unleashing those lunatics onto the boards.

Hear you go.
Now stopped ripping those packs. Haven't you learned your lesson yet. Ripping doesn't pay.
