1876 $20: Misplaced Date Variety?

In a thread from earlier in the week, I posted a semi-prooflike 1876 double eagle. Link A couple of forum members (seanq and coindeuce) commented on the possibility that it may be a misplaced date (MPD) variety.
The coin was originally purchased uncertified from ANR about 8 years ago. It was cataloged as MS61 semi-prooflike, but no mention of a MDP. Prooflike Type 2 double eagles are very scarce with 1876 being the most available date.
I am not aware of any MPD varieties reported for this date, though I have previously owned several MPD examples of other dates including 1858, 1866-S and 1865.
A close-up of the date for the 1876 $20 is shown below. Interestingly, the denticle between the 8 and 7 is wider than the other denticles. As suggested, this could be a blundered date with the upper portion of the “7” shown (see overlay).
Comments welcome.
