Auction Consignment Fees?

I have been looking at Heritage's site, and registered as well. I see that there is typically a 15% buyers premium. I can't find anything on the consignment premium, is it also 15%?

Is there a higher consignment premium if it is a reserve price auction?

Thanks for helping a newbie.

  • My last understanding was it was 10% but they may have changed it... especially with all the other changes they've made recently it wouldn't surprise me if they increased it.

I understand the sellers premium is negotiable and could be 0% if the coins warrant it.

Or, the sellers premium could be negative, i.e., the seller gets some of the 15% buyer's fee.

I know of some who have gotten 4% of the 15% the buyers pay

  • Its like having to pay to get into a auction....seller should be the only payer

  • off topic from original question, but it would be cool if buyers premium were reduced for Texas residents since we have to pay tax. With BP that makes it like a 23% markup. Prices me out of Heritage. *sob*

Seller's premiums are usually negotiable - I have seen them range from -5% for high end items to 15% for low end bulk stuff. It also depends on whether you're a first-time consignor or a "repeat customer" who they believe will continue to give them consignments in the future. Lot of variables in this situation.

Seller's fees are negotiable depending on the content of the consignment but are generally around 10%.

The seller almost always is. Bidders simply back out the buyer's premium from their maximum bids.

The standard seller's fee is 5% but as others have noted, it can be negotiated so that the seller gets some of the buyer's premium. Keep in mind that this usually involves a performance clause and your coins much must achieve a certain sell through rate. My most recent consignment achieved 103% of hammer.

  • A couple of years back I was thinking about useing Heritage but like you I couldn't find their fees
prices so I called them and was put through to a rep and asked about their fees. He wanted to
know how much I was wanting to consign and I siad I was just testing the waters but did have a
rather large colleciton but wasn't ready to sell it all right now. He was polite and took my information
ie. email address, phone numbers and name and said he would send me the forms and prices. Well 2 or 3
years latter and I still haven't received a thing from them and have since moved on to another site that
    I'm real happy with.
