Is it wrong?

That I buy unopened unsearched tubes of 20 ASE's and instead of searching, I play with them like poker chips? I know if there is a MS70 it may be a $100.00 coin, but for the most part when sold raw, played with or not I figure they will basically bet spot. Plus the pure entertainment value of stacking and shuffling is almost priceless. I do this with my raw Morgans too. If/when I get enough raw AGE's I think they will join the party. I don't know, just something about the tactile interaction. I still pull out my blue box and stack my slabs and stare and stack, but the raw coins are jus so much fun! Am I crazy for doing this?image

  • Whoa! Yes, you got it backwards. These are bullion and you are using them as currency image You should be paying to have them graded and put them on eBay or something. image

IF there is an MS70 and IF you pay to ship/grade it and IF it comes back with that MS70 label.. Way too many ifs in there when the only real difference between MS70 and not is a paper label.

I think bullion should definitely be fondled! I have a hard time actually playing with it if they are bright shiny .999 fine silver because I know it will scuff up easily. As for stacking/playing with them like poker chips, I like silver halfs and dollars for that image

I like to balance them on edge, one on the other. Have done that successfully with three coins (Morgans)
only once. Two coins many times. My Grandfather would do it on his bar (The Ship Bar) in Carson when
I was a kid. It mesmerized me over and over again.

    No you are not wrong.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I think you should make a stack about this size with ASE's and post the photo.

    Now that would be cool!

I like to spin them on the granite countertop.
They wobble forever and the sound they make captivates me.

I won't buy ASE's that have numerous/heavy contact marks unless they are heavily discounted. Why should I when there are plenty in the marketplace for sale that aren't all marked up? They're your coins so you can beat on them with a hammer if that's what turns you on---just don't expect any premium over melt/scrap value when you go to sell them.

ouch, paper cut - sting image
  • If you want, you can put them in a cointain or plastic. It is a temptation to hold them though.

While I love raw, early coppers, I think there is an underlying, kinky element in this thread. I will back away slowly.image
