What would you like to see happen in the card market?

I would like to see two things.

1) A cheap base set, (ie something around 50 cents a pack) Just a plain cardboard set that kids can afford and have fun with. Does not have to be shiny

2) Food issue cards. I love these. I would love to see a t206 sized card in packs of gum or cards printed on boxes

Is there any market shifts that would peak your interest?

I second the call for a cheap, basic set of cards. No foil, no extra gloss, no jerseys, no hair samples, just regular cardboard like back in the day. Also no high school prospects. A 396 card (3 sheets) set sounds about right.

  • I have always enjoyed set building, so I would like a large cheap set.

I also miss being able to buy packs around town.

If I said, it would rock the hobby world. So, I must be sworn to secrecy.

Barry, it must be good. image

I'd like some more vintage unopened stuff to surface. Wait, I'd like to add that it has to be authentic.

I also think a nice cheap base set would be image.

I want the value of all the cards I own to soar, while at the same time the value of the cards I don't own to plummet. image
  • I'd like to see more kids at shows ....and I'd also like to see a combined registry for sgc and psa...
it should be about the cardboard, not the flip...

You must be talking about that thing slated to happen in the next 6-12 months. Kaboom!
  • Kids at shows I agree with!!!

You never see packs of cards at convenience stores anymore. That was half the fun riding your bike to the store to get a snack, a drink, and some packs of cards!!! We would ride sometimes 5 miles each way!

If Topps or whomever came out with some cheap packs of cards, they could be put back in the stores everywhere thus increasing the exposure to kids.

How about some advertising on TV or in kids magazines.

  • More inserts and subsets and colored variations? Higher priced packs? Am I in the minority here? <sarcasm off>

  • I don't know if i'm in the minority here but i would like to stop the cutting up of game used jersey's and auto's. I collect mainly hockey but it goes for all sports. I cannot stand to see a game used jersey's of let's say Howe get cut up into little swatches just for cards. They are cutting up history. I would much rather see somebody with deeper pockets then myself own the jersey.
All i can say is why ruin a jersey like that? If they have a index card that can be cut out for a signature i'm fine with that but not on a piece of history !!

  • I totally agree with ezyshooter, and I would also like to add that if everyone can have one, then it is no longer special! I am not saying that we should make everything in short supply and only the rich win, but it would be nice to have some things be a dream to get. Also, I do not believe the card companies should artificially do this to us.

I guess I'm too old-school....no more numbered cards, no game used, no refractors, chrome, and those types of cards.

Agreed with the cheap base sets and no 'prospect" cards. I like when a player's rookie card was easily defined and he had actually... *gasp* ... PLAYED!
