I have over $20 of Canadian coins that I've pulled out of circulation(I live in Oregon) what should I do with it?

I wish I knew. I now have about $50 in nickles-dimes and quarters. My bank has told me that they will take Loonies and Toonies. Also have about $10 in pennies to sort through for varities. Hope someone comes up with a way to turn them in. The quarters dimes and nickles could be mixed in with rolls and redeemed that way. The bank has no problem giving them out in change, but won't take them back. LOL

well, first look for any silver, 10 cent up to 1967 25 cent up to1968-1967 (50% some, some 68 are nickel) anything 1966 and back is 80%
any 50 cent 1967 and older...
then look for 1973 quarters, small bust and large bust
I assume you have NO silver dollars,....
then look for 1985 1 nickel dollars... just in case.. one never knows.... canoe on rev, queen on obv,,,, but instead of Cnanad on the obv, it says NewZealand.... give you 4K for one.
    in cents, 1955 NO SF
rest,,, spend it... BC is beautiful.. Vancouver Island is fantastic... drop by my place...
I buy the wine and a steak.or Halibut (if in season) ...., or fresh raw oysters ion the half shell.. you pick off my deck...

If either or both of you are starting a collection of anything from cents thru Twoonies, let me know what dates you need (especially cents, nickels, & Loonies), and I might be able to help (I have only a few extra dimes, quarters, halves, and Twoonies).

Or, if what you have is recent enough, maybe one or both of you might be able to help me! (I need very recent dates to keep current, for the most part).

    Let's swap lists!

Anyone else in similar positions is welcome to contact me as well!image

    thatoneguy:

Do you know whether the 2 2006's you have are "plain", "P", or "RCM" for mintmarks? I actually need 1, 4, & 1 of each of those respectively, and wouldn't mind trading for the 2 you have.

I can fill in the following dates for you with no problem, including a few Geo V & Geo VI's:
    1967
    1966
    1953
    1952
    1948
    1935
    1933
    1932
    1929
    1928

What, if any, do you have in the way of extra recent-date (non-silver) nickels, dimes, quarters, halves, Loonies, & Twoonies?

    MonteCarlo:

You don't have any cents dates I need, but I can help fill a few of your holes as well, if you are interested:
    1953
    1948
    1935
    1933
    1932
    1929

Same question to you.......what, if any, do you have in the way of extra recent-date (non-silver) nickels, dimes, quarters, halves, Loonies, & Twoonies?

    olmanjon:

So what do you have among that $50 in nickels, dimes, & quarters? Maybe we can do a swap, or I can take a few recent dates (non-silver) off your hands as well!

Living about 2 miles from the Canadian border, I get a lot of Canadian cents in change. I just roll them up with US cents and take them to the bank. Some people, like my brother, save the copper ones, before 1997 the coins were .980 copper. I usually just save the pre-Eliz II coins but don't find many of them.

Has there ever been talk up North about getting rid of either the cent (as relatively worthless) or the half (since don't circulate - - same as in U.S.) from their repertoire of coins?

I believe they have had the same discussion as in the US. Some talk, no action.

The demise of the cent has been a topic of discussion for at least 30 years, fifty cent coins for circulation were last issued in 2002.

    Olmanjon:

Unfortunately, none of the dates you have are ones I need.... I need pretty much ones within the last 10 years.

And, oddly enough, the one extra quarter I can find so far that I DO have is the one you need from your run - - the 1970. No thought on your end of starting a quarter set vs turning them in, is there? If so, I'd sure let you have that '70........

Sorry Dave-no interest here in the later quarters. My interest is greatest in the large cents and the victoria coins. Thanks anyway

I'm with you as well on those older ones! But I'm also keeping current (or trying to) as the years go by with U.S. & Canadian as well. Other than these 2 countries, however, recent/decimal doesn't interest me.

    I LIKE how you think!!image

With all the changes to the cent, nickel, quarter, & dollar, and half the people out there already unaware of what's what & what's legal tender & new/old, I'm pretty sure we could ALL sneak by a lot of coins with a similar explanation.......

Heck, half of them might even believe it if we told them Canada had recently become the 51st state......image
