Why is the 1954 Bowman Ted Williams so much more expensive than the Topps?

I've always kind of wondered this - anyone have the answer for me?

What he said. I believe Williams had a contract with Topps at the time so he wasn't allowed to be in Bowman products. But I could be wrong. It's happened before. LOL

  • Correct, Ted signed a contract with Topps so they made Bowman pull it from production.

Piersall has the same card number (66 I think).
  • I always wanted to know that too. Thanks!

On a related thing about pulling cards - in this case an entire series - I sure wish I could see what Fleer had in mind for the 2nd series of the '63 set?

Correct....contract disputes. Williams was #66 and Piersall was #210. When they yanked the Williams card out, then they put Piersall in the #66 slot, therefore giving him two different numbered cards in the set with the exact same pose.
