coins from the junk box-more added daily

Back in November I had posted about some coins a new boss had dumped into
my lap for sale on eBay. I was looking for some type of help in deciding how to go about
describing each so I disclosed everything but did not scare people off.

Long story short they no longer want to try and wait for moon money they will not get, and asked me to
do what ever. Well I am going to show everyone some stuff over the next few weeks and try and get
honest opinions, as I think I might buy alot of it outright depending image

...coin #1, 1889 IHC, stood out color-wise which is reddish purple blue, not dramatic but nice. One thing I notice here is
on the obv, around lettering and such what looks like exposed metal? something growing? it is kind of white under magnification
and almost looks like what you would expect to see if the coin were plated and someone tryed to tool it.

My eyesight is shot-here is a scan of the coin-sorry its cropped that way, done automatically but if diff scan is needed I can do

Looks like the coin was dipped or something, and retoned via the environment or possibly enhanced chemically.....the residue I'm guessing is a type of verdigris that lost it's normally light green color when it was dipped. Wild speculation on my part, based on the small pics provided, and since it's not your coin, hope you don't mind.
I don't know what such a coin would bring on eBay, but I'm glad they have come to realize they aren't going to get moon money, if this is representative on their holdings. A nice AU of this date would bring around $20 - this coin would be valued at considerably less, I'm afraid.

The original thread was about how this box was dumped in my hands and I pretty much surmized it was junk-there is alot and I mean alot of type coins but that came out of an old "Harco" "Coinmaster" album, which looks to be old plastic and god knows what. I am thinking about just buying outright but will be showing alot of coins from the bunch cause everyone loves seeing emimage

Scans because I am no good camera wise, plus I do not have one capable of doing such shots, but I am game to sending a bunch of stuff to a boardmember (one I know) for pics and opinions.

This is just one of those deals you hear about, but no one ever sees the coins, this time everyone will.image

Acetone and/or a gentle Vaseline rub, that's what that puppy needs. (Edit: the 1889, I mean.) I'd go with the acetone first, then follow up with the Vaseline.

Or soak in mineral oil and use a wooden toothpick or hardened rose thorn to carefully work at the stuff in the crevices. Neither of those should scratch the coin unless you go crazy with it.
