CRO should just send you the coin for free after 50+ people just studied his inventory for the last 15 minutes and it almost made me want to buy one of his coins. Alas most of my money is for other things right now.
"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose, Cardinal.
The "unusual terms" are that I offered to pay for the coin now and receive it when I order something else down the road. It seems like a waste of postage, paper, etc. to ship it.

You should start a thread offering a couple of clues and asking us to guess the coin you almost purchased.
Surprised that a dipped Circulated coin that retoned (be it with rainbows) made some many high level people's cutoff for quality. I might be missing something.

My collection is not about pleasing other people and living up to their standards.
I thought it was a fun coin and a no-brainer for the grade and price. I have spent more money on a lousy dinner. If I grow to dislike the coin, I could always throw it away.
Congrats to you! I like it a lot, particularly the color at that grade. I've seen circ mercs get toned like that in the albums and I have a hard time getting rid of them as bullion class coins because of the toning. For an A&R piece, it certainly isn't bullion
CRO guys are really great to work with......I keep looking at their inventory and was doing so last night again as well. It is all I can do right now to keep my wallet closed when I look there. That 1899 proof "RD" IHC......mmmmmmgood! The 1794 large cent....for an XF40....nice! The different MASS pine tree choices.....I really need one and some of those are calling my name!!! That 1799 Rhode Island ship one? Wow momma! that's a nice looking piece and I do not colonials like that, but I like it a lot! 1835 capped bust H10, 1910 barber proof dime, 1836 capped bust 50c, 1942 proof WLH in PR68, 1802/1 bust right $2.5? Those are just some of the ones in series I don't collect that I am grabbing my wallet with one hand and slapping it with the other.
None of their coins are bad...the above just jumped out at me.
CRO has great pieces and working them is always a delight!
Again, RYK, congrats on a very nice piece! Now, don't you have to let go of some other inventory to make room?
I stumbled upon the thread too late to guess. Congratulations, RYK! I really like the colorful peripheral toning, the rays, and the arrows at the date. I'm sure that I don't have to tell you this, but keep your family heirloom!
Well, most of us went the wrong direction in our guesses, looking for a coin that would require "special arrangements" for you, as most of the coins, if you wanted it, you would simply pay and get, nice play on words RYK. I'll admit to being among those that are surprised the 1853 met your standards.
Rumor has it that there is a picture of two stud muffins in CRO hats posted on these boards, taken at a Baltimore show a few years ago.

Grrr... Youse guys just had to talk up the new CRO inventory. So I peeked, one hand reached for my checkbook, and the other didn't slap it down fast enough.
Mmmm...chocolate.

Didn't we have a time, not too long ago, that RYK was searching for a new collecting direction?
Maybe we have it!
Dirty gold gives way to dirty silver!
Congrats on the purchase. Nice to have a family ancestor that collected that you can link with like this. For me, my maternal grandmother was the collector and I still have some coins of great worth in terms of sentimental value; their financial value pales by comparison.
I have an A&R quarter (1853-O) that was given to me from my grandmother. It is an F02 worth little more than bullion value but I won't sell it. I figure she must have pulled it out of circulation in the 1910's or 1920's.
The irony in this is that I have been looking at images of RYK's dirty old gold pieces for a couple of years, and I decided that I had to have one. So, Monday I went to DW's web site, found a Dahlonega piece that looked great and contacted Doug, only to be told that it had just been sold. I guess that my guardian angel was looking out for me.

Congrats on the purchase. Give the dime to a young numismatist who will appreciate it more than I.
Whatever floats your boat!
<< <i>It is quite nice and exactly what I expect to see from a grandfathers collection. All snuggled in its old blue whitman folder.

Will do. Thanks for playing and guessing correctly.

There should be some kind of dollar limit for those hats. Like certain colors should only be for more expensive coins.
Becuase I do not want everyone to think RYK's CRO coin is as good my CRO coin

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Or you could give it to yet another YN, who could enjoy it as you did with your father's coin.

He had his smiley....I think that I can reasonably state that RYK was joking and would not through such a coin away.
